On Canada Day 2012, Raptors called @SteveNash with hopes to bring him to Toronto. "I was very close" Nash said, but ultimately turned them down.

In pursuit of @SteveNash, the Raptors flew to meet Nash at Tanenbaum’s Central Park apartment. Nash was shown a DVD of his career highlights narrated by Canadian hockey icon Wayne Gretzky. The Raps offered him $36 million (U.S.) over three years.

Nash went to the Lakers, for less money. "When this opportunity (with the Lakers) became a reality, I couldn’t pass it up … I wouldn’t have had an opportunity to play on a team with as much talent as (the Lakers) have," he said.

Raptors were also in pursuit of Houston point guard Kyle Lowry. They thought if they got Nash, Lowry could apprentice for a year or two and then emerge as the starter. When Nash opted for the Lakers, they pulled the trigger on the Lowry deal anyway.

After the season, the Rockets decided they preferred guard Goran Dragic (who ended up leaving for Phoenix as a free agent), signed Lin and traded Lowry to the Raps. When he arrived in Canada, he was a frustrated player unable to find a home.

When Lowry arrived in Toronto, it wasn't the best start. He was hurt in his first Raptors training camp and wasn’t in shape, and he struggled to get comfortable with Dwane Casey’s team concept.

In 2012, Lynn Kuo, an assistant concertmaster at the @nationalballet lost her six-figure violin after her partner left it on Toronto's subway. “Make sure my baby’s OK,” she recalls saying. As night fell she noticed that the violin had never arrived.
