1/4. Governance in Nigeria is for private, ethnic, religious interests rather than for common good! While Nigerian government pretends to stamp out child marriage with the Child Rights Act of 2003, the 2013 Senate endorsement of Section 29 (4) (b) of the 1999 Constitution,
2/4. as amended, provides that “any WOMAN who is married shall be deemed to be of full age,” effectively countering and rubbishing the Child Rights Act because, even a one-year-old Nigerian girl is a woman once married!
3/4. Now, the National Assembly Joint Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission Matters has proposed a review of the provision in the Electoral Act, asking INEC to consider any married girl who is not up to 18 years as eligible to vote.
4/4. Female lawmaker Aisha Dukku is one of the proponents of this murderous, backward, child-hating, VVF-enabling law that will effectively lay bare Nigerian girl-children to further sexual violence. Too bad. #SayNoToChildMarriage
