THREAD: Latest COVID stats in South Dakota:
Out of 50 states, South Dakota has the:
•highest daily reported deaths in last 7 days per 100K population
•5th highest total reported deaths per 100K pop
•14th highest number of patients currently hospitalized for COVID per 100K pop

•20th highest reported new cases in last 7 days per 100K population
-Tennessee is #1 with a rate of 913/100K
•2nd highest total reported cases per 100K population
-North Dakota is #1 with a rate of 11,937/100K

•2nd highest percent positive tests in the last 7 days (39%, tied with Pennsylvania) with Idaho 1st at 43%
•2nd lowest for number of new tests reported in last 7 days per 100K population (1,153/100K)

North Dakota implemented a mask mandate on November 14th and as of December 19th conducts 5,754 tests/100K population with a test positivity of 6% (vs. 1,153 tests/100K populations & TP of 39% in South Dakota):

•In the last seven days, Brookings County S.D. had the 2nd lowest number of average daily cases per population size among the counties with the ten largest cities.

•Since the beginning of this pandemic, Brookings County had the lowest number of cases per population size among the counties with the ten largest cities.

•Since the beginning of this pandemic, Brookings County had the lowest number of deaths per population size among the counties with the ten largest cities.

•Brookings County implemented a mask mandate on Sept 8th & had the lowest rate of cases in the previous 7 days from Nov 1st - Dec 6th.

•Davison and Beadle counties had the highest rate of cases in the previous 7 days in mid-November and currently have one of the lowest of all 10 counties with the most populated cities.

•All 10 counties continue to have substantial spread defined by CDC as more than 100 cases over the last seven days, or more than 14.3 average cases per day, per 100,000 population.
