For the first time since 2015, TTP claims an attack in Mamozay, Orakzay agency, the hometown of ISKP founding leadership, Shaikh Maqbool & Hafiz Saeed Khan. Orakzay was the basecamp of Hakimullah & the stronghold of TTP till TTP-Orakzay defected and founded ISKP in late 2014. 1/5
TTP claims to have killed two and abducted one of the laborers constructing a police post in the area. Reports say that both laborers were workers of ANP and belonged to the Mardan district of KpK. Both were beheaded. 2/5
TTP has avoided beheadings in the last few years after following🇦🇫Taliban and AQIS in releasing guidelines for its members. ISKP has used this brutal act as a trademark of its terror. Does it mean that ISKP hardliners have recently joined TTP ranks in the area? 3/5
Does it mean that defections have started back into TTP of its former cadres who joined ISKP previously? It is plausible, especially when almost all of Orakzay ISKP leadership are killed or surrendered/arrested, like Saeed Khan, Maqbool, Aslam Farooqi, etc. 4/5
TTP has not yet announced any defections into its ranks of ISKP splinters, it could possibly mean that might members of ISKP have individually joined back TTP. It was reported that an ex-ISKP commander from Khyber joined TTP-HuA targeted in a Pak drone strike in Kunar in Jul. 5/5

Benazir Bhutto, ex-PM of Pakistan, described AQ in the following words n 2004, which I would say is a very concise & significant definition. It shows that she was well aware of the AQ threat, & the AQ also correctly considered her a major threat 4 its survival n the region. 1/n
Benazir Bhutto says ”Al-Qaeda has managed to unite disparate militant groups into an international confederate of terrorists, which is at times is called the Islamic Front. 2/n
Often these groups exploit local tensions, for example the tensions in the Middle East, the nationalistic feelings of the Chechen people, the nationalistic opposition to foreign troops in Iraq or the Kashmir dispute. However, they do have an ideology. 3/n
This thread seems part of a popular narrative knotting ISKP attacks to be perpetrated by the Taliban, particularly by the Haqqani network, which could be logical for some of the high-profile unclaimed attacks of the post-US-TB peace deal, but it does not seem correct here. 1/6
First, it considers غزوة لبّوا النداء [Answer the call] military campaign only limited to Wilayat Central Africa, which is not correct. It is a general campaign for all IS provinces, but ISWCA claimed its first attack targeting central Kanjabai prison in Beni, Congo. 2/6
Secondly, it says that the statement attack claiming is in very weak Arabic, so IS/ISKP has not released it. The author concludes that it is thus one of the Taliban's several secret attacks, which they credit to ISKP for their interests. 3/6
ISKP media outlet released a 20 min audio where the group spokesman Sultan Aziz Azzam provides details of the group's deadliest attack on the central prison in Nangarhar carried on 2/8. For the 1st time, ISKP quickly released a claim of an attack with a detailed description. 1/n
Azzam claims that the attack was according to the promise of the first speech of the new ISKP leader Dr. Shahab al-Muhajir who promised to release the ISKP prisoners. He said al-Muhajir had constituted two brigades for these suicide attacks, which he is supervising. 2/n
Audio provides full details of the attack with the number, nationality, and role of each attacker. There were a total of 11 attackers; 4 Tajiks, 3 Indians, 3 Afghans & 1 Pakistani, divided into four groups. It also provides details of types & quantity of weapons &ammunition. 3/n
Ustad Yasir is one of the most imp players of the jihadist war theatre in AfPak. Evidence shows that he was the most trusted advisor of OBL & AQ leadership on the AfPak matters. It is imp to explore the character of UY to understand the post-9/11 re-emergence of AQ from AfPak.1/n
In the 1980s, UY was a close aide of Prof. Sayyaf and a top member of his party. He became a strict critique of Sayyaf after 9/11 due to his support for a democratic govt in Afghanistan. He was one of the leading Pashto jihadist ideologues with fierce oratory skills. 2/n
Pak authorities arrested & handed him over to the Afghan government in 2005, but he was released in a prisoners’ exchange in 2007. UY was the father in law of Mullah Akhtar Mansoor – the successor of Mullah Umar - and himself was a central leader of the Afghan Taliban. 3/n
A massive and surprising development showing the TTP efforts for consolidating its ranks. TTP Hakim Ullah and Wali ur Rehman groups had remained in conflict since Aug 2009 when Hakimullah got elected himself as TTP chief. 1/n
The conflict took the shape of brutal killings after the killing of Hakim Ullah in Nov 2013.
Hakim Ullah group became dispersed where most of his commanders joined ISKP while Wali ur Rehman group emerged powerful under the leadership of Sajna Mehsud. 2/n
Both groups remained in fierce killings, which even went out of control of AQ and Haqqani’s. Finally, the central command of the Afghan Taliban got involved in ending it. It was a crucial period for TTP where 🇵🇰 state was just starting military operation in Waziristan. 3/n
Shehryr Mehsud was leading TTP Hakimullah Mehsud group which was badly targeted by the TTP Sajna group after the killing of Hakimullah. Sajna group is now leading the main TTP. With his killing, this major rival group of TTP will almost end. Most of its members already 1/4
defected to ISKP or surrendered to the Pak government or killed by Sajna group.
Shehryr escaped many attacks before. Sajna-Hakimullah groups killed dozens of imp TTP commanders due to internal rivalries which started with dispute between Wali ur Rehman Mehsud & Hakimullah n 2/4
Sep 2009 over successorship of TTP founding head Baitullah Mehsud. The killings b/w both reached to worse level after killing of Hakimullah in Nov 2013 with eradicating almost all imp members of Hakimullah group, even killing imp non-Mehsuds TTP members. It might 3/4
