The FSB officer involved in the post-operation clean up provided details of the attempt in a 45+ minute call with Navalny, including details of where the poison was placed - Navalny's underpants. 
The FSB officer also provided Navalny, who he believed to be the assistant of a senior government figure, with the reason why he thought the plot failed.

Also a big thank you to President Putin for effectively confirming Navalny was being followed by the FSB, but he seems to have overestimated the competence of his spies.
