What about care that isn't covered that people were never warned about?
What about care that is covered but isn't paid for completely that people were never warned about? E.g. co-insurance payments.
What about care that could be covered but people were not warned about the price tag and they have a high deductible so they have sticker shock for something they're left paying for all out of pocket?
What about care that is preventive but is coded "incorrectly" so is surprisingly not covered under annual wellness visits?
Those are a few quick examples that come to mind that I, my loved ones, and my patients have faced. Examples that would be understood colloquially to be surprise bills.
