The best place for children is in school. This is where we can best safeguard their wellbeing and long term educational achievement. No one is calling for the prolonged closure of schools...but simply schools are asking for their safe reopening, protecting both the pupils and the
adults, especially at a time with a surge in infections, an NHS under pressure and a new CV19 70% more infectious.
A reopening which means that children are in school full time receiving a high quality education.
It is more disruptive to children's education and well being to
continually close class bubbles and to send children home to isolate than to take a little more time and reopen schools safely. As a school, like many others, we have the following mitigations in place:

-       Visitors – ‘No visitor’ in school before 2.30pm policy,
Well ventilated rooms, windows open, especially when the children go out to play at break time (in order to refresh the air in the classroom)
-       Cleaning – enhanced cleaning provision of rooms and shared areas Equipment sanitised by Caretaker.
-       Resource areas – timetabled by class and wiped down after use
-       Limited movement around the school, especially of pupils
-       Handwashing and sanitising – children wash and sanitise hands 3 times per day
-       Visors – provided to staff
-       Face coverings – provided for staff
-       Santising of pupil school bags, lunch boxes and water bottles
-       Lunch/dinner in bubbles
-       No mixing of class bubbles
-       No mixing of staff in class bubbles
-       2m Social Distancing of staff
-       72hr paper quarantine rule – books etc going home/coming back to school must be quarantined for 72hrs. A quarantine box has been labelled and provided to every classroom. Stickers placed on packs going home to say that they are to be quarantined.
-       Electronic communications – a number of online resources to support pupils in school and at home have been bought eg MyOn, AR, Mathletics, Class Dojo etc.
All communications with parents are sent home electronically via email/over the school app.
- Parent teacher meetings have been booked electronically. Parent teacher meetings taking place by telephone.
-       Online homework -  as far as possible using dojo, MyOn and Google Drive
-       Home learning packs – prepared in the event of a class/school shut down.
-       Money- limited money coming into school. Use of online payment system funded by school and not DE or EA
-       PPE – been provided in every classroom
-       Staggered start and finish times – to reduce footfall onto the school site
-       Parents/carers – have been asked to wear masks
-       Children – sit in rows facing forward
-       Risk Assessment- shared with staff and kept under review
-       No sharing of resources
-       Wipes – provided at common entry points
-       Teacher/CA – in each classroom – no crossover of staff
-       Meetings via zoom – no meetings of more than 6 people should be held face to face
-       Assembly – via zoom
-       Parents – reduced access to school. They have also been advised not to send their children to school if sick and if concerned to seek medical advice.
-       Track and trace – in place for visitors and class bubbles should there be a confirmed case of CV19.
All advice of PHA followed.

There are probably some mitigations that have been overlooked in this list.
In doing all of this we are also trying to keep some sense of ‘normality’ for the children.

What more can we possibly do....
We are stilling waiting to see what new mitigations were to be introduced in October... what more can we do...it is possibly time to think about increased staggering at the beginning and end of the day and the introduction of blended learning....
We have done all that has been asked of us.... Image
