Big news: Bold progressive champions inside and outside of Congress just unveiled The People’s Agenda!

This people-first legislative roadmap for the first 6 months of 2021 is an urgent, brave, and just agenda. It's the way forward. And we're ready to make it happen. Take a look:
1⃣Provide COVID-19 relief that actually meets the scale of this devastating crisis and addresses the disproportionate harm to BIPOC and other vulnerable communities. This includes protecting essential workers, sending grants to businesses, and putting money in people's pockets.
2⃣Put people back to work, give workers more power, and transform to a clean renewable energy economy. This includes investing in a bold green infrastructure package that prioritizes frontline communities while dramatically curtailing air, water, land, and climate pollution.
3⃣Ensure health care for all. As we work towards Medicare for All, we must automatically enroll anyone who loses their job into Medicare, expand Medicare to lower the eligibility age to 50 and cover those up to age 25, protect reproductive care, and lower prescription prices.
4⃣Defend and expand voting rights, strengthen democracy, and end corruption to return the vote and the voice back to the people. This includes taking on the dominance of big money in politics and reining in lobbying.
5⃣Dismantle racism and inequality in all institutions to create justice, ensure equality and opportunity for all, and end the racial wealth gap. Additionally, we are committed to humane immigration reform while also meeting all trust obligations to Tribal Nations and communities.
6⃣Stop endless wars and finally invest in diplomacy and peace. This includes ending massively increasing Pentagon budgets that fuel wars and sap communities of vital investments in housing, education, transportation and infrastructure, health care, clean energy, and child care.
7⃣End corporate greed and corporate monopolies to end poverty and stop poor and working people from getting poorer while corporations and the rich get richer. This includes strengthening antitrust laws and making the wealthy, corporations, and Wall Street pay their fair share.
People across America gave us a mandate to fight for them, to respond to the root causes of suffering, and to transform the structures of this country so people thrive—not just try and survive.

Now, we must deliver. And with The People’s Agenda, we’re ready to do exactly that.
Big thanks to those who helped us create this urgent road map. The @USProgressives are proud to team up with @UniteThePoor, @communitychange, @MoveOn, @SEIU & other organizers who have long been leading the fight for racial, social, economic, immigrant, and environmental justice.

THREAD on health expertise in @JoeBiden's Cabinet. US has 15 mm cases & 3,000 deaths PER DAY. Racial injustice is rampant.

1. Cabinet MUST have multiple public health experts. Current structure: 5 econ & 3 climate positions. HHS Sec is SOLE health pos. Elevate SG & add 1 addl.
2. Nominate HHS Secretary who is public health/medical expert. @vivek_murthy, former Surgeon General, is exceptionally qualified & trusted. Our HC system has failed us & HHS Sec needs to understand & CHANGE this.
3. Elevate position of Surgeon General to Cabinet & consider adding one more position around equitable health access. We face the pandemic of a century. The top levels of Cabinet must have real public health knowledge embedded into every discussion.

Being a progressive means being first to the best, most just idea. Our policies are so often slandered as crazy or radical or far-left before we build the movement across America that makes them the law of the land.

There are many examples, but today's is legalizing marijuana.
In 2012, WA and CO became the first states to legalize marijuana. Over the next 7 years, 9 states joined us. Last month, voters in 4 more states—red and blue—brought the list to 15. And TODAY, the House is debating the MORE Act to legalize marijuana at the federal level.
Let's keep the momentum for justice going. Let's legalize marijuana across the country. Let's expunge the records of those serving time for it. And let's ensure BIPOC communities who have been disproportionately harmed by the war on drugs own the profits of this new industry.

Five major takeaways from Trump's tax returns:

😡He paid NO income taxes in 10 of past 15 years. In 2016 and 2017, he paid only $750. Even in our broken tax system where the wealthiest never pay their fair share, the average person in top .001% paid about $25 million.
Takeaway #2 from Trump's tax returns:

🤯He personally owes a lot of people ALOT of money--hundreds of millions of dollars--that has to be paid up in the next four years. That makes him a prime target for anyone who wants something--including dictators or other foreign enemies.
Takeaway #3 from Trump's tax returns:

😡He wants YOU--American taxpayers--to give him a $70+ million dollar REFUND. The IRS is auditing him, but don't forget he is president and controls the IRS.

America not only lost a historic member of the highest court but a trailblazer for women everywhere. From her passionate advocacy on behalf of women to her decades on the Supreme Court, Ruth Bader Ginsburg served with grace and brilliance while fighting for equality and justice.
As some looked out for corporations and the powerful, she lifted up families and the most vulnerable. With every case she deliberated on, she was guided by the promise of the very words carved above the Supreme Court: equal justice under law.
Her tireless work on the court protected and expanded women’s rights, reproductive rights, voting rights, civil rights, and workers’ rights. She helped make possible historic progress on LGBTQ+ equality, health care, and immigration.

Yesterday, I was briefed by attorneys representing women who were subjected to forced, invasive procedures by a gynecologist connected with a private, for-profit detention center in GA. It has become clear that the initial reports are likely part of a horrific pattern of conduct.
There may be at minimum 17 women who were subjected to unnecessary procedures from just one doctor, often without appropriate consent or knowledge, and with the clear intention of sterilization. It's possible there are similar cases for individuals who were already deported.
One woman, who was nearly deported, consulted the doctor simply about her menstrual cycle. She was put under for what she was told would be a simple procedure, only to wake up and find that the doctor had removed part of her reproductive organs without her knowledge or consent.

Millions of people have lost their jobs, housing, and health care during COVID-19. We must respond with policies that match the scale of this unprecedented crisis. The new Republican bill in the Senate FAILS to do that.

RT to share 6 reasons why:
To help people withstand this crisis, we must renew expanded unemployment assistance by the FULL $600 a week.

✅The House plan does this

❌The Republican bill fails to do this (it actually slashes benefits in half, which then expire in December)
We must get stimulus checks out to people across this country so they can put food on the table, make ends meet, and pay their bills.

✅My proposal does this with recurring monthly checks

❌The Republican bill fails to do this (NO new checks would be sent out)
