There's been so much disruption to research recently, but one thing I'm really *very* proud of is the completion of the first comprehensive, text-searchable Eric Hobsbawm Bibliography (hobsbawm.shca.ed.ac.uk). Here's a short thread about what it is and who made it happen... 1/n
The blurb says it all: this is a complete database of every published book, journal article, book chapter, review, newspaper article and pamphlet Hobsbawm ever wrote, along with his unpublished work and his private papers. There are over 3,000 entries. 2/n
The database is based on Keith McClelland's extraordinary bibliography, first compiled in the early 80s and augmented several times since then. Keith contributed to this website as well, bringing an incredible depth of experience. 3/n
This online bibliography includes 100s of additional entries, a full list of his archival papers, and special curated lists to introduce specific themes in Hobsbawm's work (eg. 'jazz', 'communism', 'labour history'). Amazing postdoc Annie Perez did a lot of the heavy lifting. 4/n
The bibliography is available in 3 languages - English, French and Spanish (translations are mine, apologies in advance!). I hope this will make the bibliography much more accessible. 5/n
All of the tech wizadry - from database compilation to web design - was done by the peerless @oculardexterity, who dealt with this weird project with extraordinary patience. Thanks, too, to @ahrcpress and @HCAatEdinburgh for funding. 6/n
Finally, a special shout-out to @ICiuarriz, @RichardEvans36, @karenhowie2008, and the @EdinUniCAHSSres Digital Innovation Team for their support at different points in the lifecycle of the project. All that's left now is for people to use the bibliography! 7/7
PS. One cool feature of the bibliography is that Annie created outbound weblinks for every entry. This means you can click straight through from an entry to the Worldcat library catalogue (for books) or full text via JSTOR/Project Muse etc. (for articles) .
