An independent survey revealed the majority of covid fear comes from catching it and suffering long term effect from 🦠
Disclaimer: Everything I reference in thread existed BEFORE COVID-19.
Long haul covid is a very real thing...
...but it’s not a new thing.
For years, influenza viruses have been causing substantial seasonal and pandemic morbidity and mortality and also causing .... yes.... serious long haul long effects.
Present day, patients who survive influenza 🦠 infection are at risk of physical and psychological complications and multi-organ dysfunction.
They include: Lungs, Heart, Brian, Chronic Fatigue
Lungs 🫁:
Lungs can be affected for at least 6 months AFTER hospital discharge.
But for patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome lung functions lungs issues can persist 2 years AFTER discharge from the hospital.
Heart ❤️:
Viral illnesses have long been known to cause cardiomyopathy affecting adults and children and these are patients with NO PRIOR history of heart failure.
Symptoms of shortness of breath and cough were evident in all in these patients.
Brain 🧠:
Yes, influenza infections have been reported to be associated with neurological symptoms that is still detectable 1 month after infection and it’s associated with impairments in spatial memory formation.
This is still only partly understood. Neurotropic strains are indeed able to enter the CNS through the blood–brain barrier or microvascular endothelial cells and cause neuronal cell death / cognitive function impairment.
Fatigue 😴:
Know as post-viral syndrome - like covid, chronic fatigue can be long lasting after other respiratory viruses from weeks or months.
It can develop even after seemingly simple bouts of the flu or the common cold.
Getting sick sucks... once the person’s body has removed the virus, post-viral syndrome may make them feel drained of energy and generally unwell... it happens.
Good news it’s treatable...
... The trigger for post-viral syndrome appears to be a reaction to the virus itself. Many doctors will treat post-viral syndrome in the same way as they treat chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), as the two can have a similar presentation.
Covid-19 / Flu pretty much any viral infection can trigger long term effects with anyone.
But we’re not helpless... data confirms long term complications from viral infections are more prevalent or apparent in people WITH weakened immune systems.
I’m not here to suggest anything in regards to increasing your immune health, that’s your job to research.
