What do hospitals in Los Angeles County look like on Christmas? Conditions are pretty dire.

The latest, from @ronlin @LukeMMoney @skarlamangla
latimes.com/california/sto…
There are now so many patients that some hospitals are running dangerously low on oxygen and other supplies.

With intensive care units at 0% available capacity, officials urge people to avoid dialing 911 for assistance unless absolutely necessary
latimes.com/california/sto…
Why is oxygen necessary? While a non-COVID patient may receive six liters of oxygen per minute, COVID-19 patients need 60 to 80 liters a minute. latimes.com/california/sto… Image

On Wednesday, March 4, passengers awoke to find a letter from the cruise line notifying them that the CDC was investigating “a small cluster” of COVID-19 cases in Northern California connected to a Grand Princess cruise to Mexico a couple of weeks earlier.
latimes.com/california/sto…
Some of the guests from that trip were still on board — back-to-backers, they were called — along with many crew members. There was no indication that anyone onboard had it. Soon came more unsettling news.
latimes.com/california/sto…
California was reporting what was believed at the time to be its first COVID-19 death.

It was “an elderly adult with underlying health conditions” from Placer County, and he had been on the Grand Princess trip to Mexico.
