@MarcHoogsteyns@PVerlindenJst I met @PVerlindenJst a few times in person at his conferences. His usual boastfulness and arrogance put aside, every single time, he made statements that cannot possibly be supported by any serious academic nor have been double checked. 1/5
@MarcHoogsteyns@PVerlindenJst One time, he claimed that millions of Rwandan refugees were afraid to return and called me a liar when I said that 3,5 M Rwandan refugees had already returned to Rwanda from DRC and Burundi since 94. ... I guess UNHCR is not a reliable source in his eyes. 2/5
@MarcHoogsteyns@PVerlindenJst Another time (about the refugees camps in DRC), I asked him if there were (according to him) weapons in those camps. I quote his answer: “Maybe a few rusty guns, but I’m not even sure they were still functional”. ...I guess MSF is not a reliable source in his eyes neither. 3/5
@MarcHoogsteyns@PVerlindenJst Another example of how PV chooses his “reliable” sources is the case of Guérin who initially claimed he witnessed killing fields of Interhamwe and sought refuge with RPF but later changed his version with 180°. Belgian Rwanda commission found him unreliable and choose ./.. 4/5
@MarcHoogsteyns@PVerlindenJst not to hear him. But in 99, Verlinden made a documentary based on the more than doubtful Guérin testimony, using images of tutsi victims to illustrate so called victims of RPF. Verlinden’s arguments to defend the credibility of Guérin are ridiculously priceless (see image) 5/5
@MarcHoogsteyns@PVerlindenJst What is stupid is to make unfounded and false statements that can easily be fact-checked. @PVerlindenJst takes whatever fits MRND, CDR, RDR, FDLR and other genocidal or denial theories and claims it to be the truth as long as it blames RPF. It’s too obvious Peter, we see you ! 🙄
