New hobby is googling the think tanks affiliated with every rabid anti-China op-ed writer, and then looking up how much weapons contractors have contributed to them lol
Neal J. Blue, another $100k donor, is chairman/CEO of General Atomics, the same military contractor his brother Linden S. Blue co-owns (see above in thread)
I overlooked this in my original tweet, but Northrop Grumman, in the $50k-$100k donor range, is one of the world’s largest weapons manufacturers, and developed the Stealth Bomber during the Cold War
🧵The promise of BRICS lies in its potential to challenge the current US-led global order established after WWII.
In the aftermath of WWII, the US, who came out of it relatively unscathed, sought to consolidate all the former imperialist powers under Washington’s leadership.
This was to prevent another “inter-imperalist” war for control of one another’s colonies, which increased the likelihood of socialist revolution spreading. This way, all of capitalist powers could work together against the Soviet Union and the socialist bloc.
To achieve this on the diplomatic front, the United Nations was established.
On the military front, NATO was established, where all the former imperialist powers were consolidated into one military alliance led by the US as a bulwark against the spread of socialism.
We can't talk about the new Cold War on China without explaining its weapon of choice: the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
This once obscure law is now being invoked with increasing regularity to go after political activists and Chinese nationals for being "foreign agents."
FARA is a US law ostensibly aimed at curbing foreign influence in politics, requiring “foreign agents” (those who engage in advocacy or lobbying on behalf of a foreign entity) to register w/ the Dept of Justice and comply with its extensive reporting requirements.
However, the law is written in such a startlingly sweeping, broad manner that it lends itself easily to interpretation and political weaponization.
China gave Cuba $100 million as a donation to help ease its economic crisis a couple of weeks ago. Virtually zero coverage in US media.
Cuba's economic crisis ofc is due to the US blockade. And Cuba has suffered back-to-back disasters this year—Hotel Saratoga gas explosion, the Matanzas fire, Hurricane Ian. Each time there were calls to lift the blockade to deliver aid, but they went ignored by the US.
After the Matanzas fire which destroyed three major fuel tanks that fed Cuba’s power plant, many countries around the world, including China, Russia, Bolivia, Colombia, etc all sent aid.
What did the US offer Cuba? Technical assistance by phone.
Reading abt all the failed CIA assassination attempts on Castro in 634 Ways to Kill Fidel by fmr head of Cuban State Security Fabian Escalante. One of the more ridiculous ideas was CIA poisoning a wet suit and trying to give it to Castro as a gift (he was an avid scuba diver) 1/
When Castro didn't accept the gift, the CIA thought to implant a bomb in a seashell and plant it in an area where he went scuba diving. When he picked it up, it would detonate. This plan was foiled when they couldn't find a shell big enough to put a bomb into. 2/
Other ridiculous plots included putting explosives into one of his pens, explosives into his cigars, poisoning his cigars, etc. These were in addition to other plots the Agency concocted where they'd just ambush him at a public appearance. 3/
Yan Zhiwen was a Chinese food delivery worker who was shot and killed in Queens last night. He leaves behind a wife, who works in a laundromat, and three kids. This is the GoFundMe set up by his family.
Note: Earlier I shared a different GoFundMe that was a scholarship fund for Yan's kids. While conversations are taking place to make sure the family receives these funds, this GFM is directly linked to his wife's bank account, so best to donate to this one
Thinking abt the time my white "abolitionist" roommate threatened our Black roommate (who had no steady job, was on EBT) w the full force of the state by taking her to court over the $200 she owed him in utilities bills
He had consulted his "socialist" lawyer friend who assured him he'd win in civil court. This was just days after they got into a verbal confrontation, he was screaming at her and said he would call the landlord right then and have her kicked out.
She got angry, threw a bottle of sunscreen at him and announced she was moving out, that if he ever bothered her again she'd punch him. For the next few days, she stayed at her bf's while packing up her stuff at our apt.
