Launching a new product? Making a career change? Any major make or break decisions on the anvil?

Six Thinking Hats is a decision making framework that can help us make the right calls.

A Thread 🧵 👇
White Hat - Data

We look at the available data, understand past trends and identify missing information that we would need to make the right decisions.
Red Hat - Intuition

In contrast to the white hat, we use pure intuition to look at problems and understand what we feel.

Purely driven by the gut, we speculate what we would do.
Black Hat - Pessimism

We assume the worst and imagine our decision is wrong. We try to poke holes and look at the weak parts of our plan.

This enables us to make our plan more resilient.
Yellow Hat - Optimism

We assume that our decision is absolutely right. We look at the benefits of the decision and showcase the value we get out of it.
Green Hat - Creativity.

We brainstorm ideas openly and list ideas without going much into feasibility and stretching our creativity to the limit.

From these out-of-the box ideas, a better plan might emerge.
Blue Hat - Process control.

It's the leader's hat. We can invoke the other hats to bring different perspectives to the meeting.

We manage the flow of information and keep the discussion grounded on what we wish to accomplish.
It is a great tool of introspection, where we wear different hats and debate on the steps we need to take.

1/ In Dec 2020, I decided to write 30 screenshot essays in 30 days on principles and mental models for early employees/leaders.

The aim of this exercise is to improve my writing and develop a content production system.

Recapping the essays I wrote over 30 days.
2/ To accomplish huge goals, break them up into micro habits. Use the little wins from little habits to achieve the goals.

3/ Like a portfolio of investments to handle risk, build a portfolio of careers. Develop skills for a multi career path.
