We all need a bit of a lift, so here’s my favourite BBC News / Sky News / other British news moments of 2020.
1. When a diplomatic news update on Sky News went off the rails when her son interrupted to ask for two biscuits
2. When an interview on BBC News was interrupted by Scarlett asking where she should place her unicorn [fun fact: both of these happened on the same day]
3. When @MetMattTaylor was asked whether he was a Rick Astley fan and he said no.

Coming up next on @BBCBreakfast ... Rick Astley!

4. When Gordon Brown finished his @BBCBreakfast interview by doing this
5. When @TVNaga01 asked Charlie Stayt when was the last time he had seen a beaver (look at their faces)
6. When Emily Maitlis’ legs mysteriously disappeared at the start of Newsnight [@maitlis]
7. When @piffleandwhimsy merged Dua Lipa and the BBC News theme, so BBC News decided to play it out on air instead of the regular news countdown
8. When the BBC News team put this story in the running order to annoy @BBCSimonMcCoy
9. When @BBCSimonMcCoy completely fell apart whilst reporting this story about a man who plays the piano to monkeys
10. When BBC News mistakingly reported that Margaret Thatcher had tweeted to congratulate Biden on his election win
11. The way @vicderbyshire decided to bring this interview with Dame Vivienne Westwood to a close
12. When @BBCBreakfast decided to cover the re-opening of a shopping centre post-lockdown, only for it not to go as planned
13. The way @vicderbyshire despaired whilst reporting that the Stonehenge summer solstice was being replaced by a livestream.

“Or you could ... just get up and look at the sky yourself.”

14. When a BBC News report ended early and @BenBrownBBC was reflecting the nation
15. [Not strictly from a news channel, but as it was a news item I’m including it].

When @xandvt was asked on @BBCTheOneShow about following the rules and he came back with this *incredible* answer
16. When a guest on the BBC News channel downed a jägerbomb live at 11 o’clock in the morning
17. When Matt Hancock finished a @BBCBreakfast interview in the most Matt Hancock way possible
18. When Matt Frei on @Channel4News finished his bulletin by shouting “BBC NEWS” instead of his current employer
19. When @BBCSimonMcCoy ended this lighthearted news report with this simply *brutal* quip
20. When @maitlis accidentally introduced Alan Johnson from “hell” instead of where he actually was ... Hull!

21. When @Stormzy turned up for a @BBCBreakfast interview accidentally wearing his slippers
22. This utterly bizarre opening to a BBC News bulletin
23. When @BBCJonSopel on the BBC News delivered this burn 🔥🔥 about Trump shortly after he lost the election
24. When the weather presenter @OwainWynEvans went viral for playing the BBC News theme on the drums, so the BBC made an orchestra...

... and played it out on the BBC News channel. Wild.

25. And finally, this classic one-liner by @BBCSimonMcCoy

In case you want any more, there are *many* WTF British TV moments in this article I wrote for the @guardian yesterday, including some excellent Mr Motivator content.

No Glastonbury. No Eurovision. No Wimbledon. No Olympics. No Paralympics. No Edinburgh Fringe.

A real challenge for broadcasters, with hundreds of hours of television and radio to now fill.
BBC has announced special archive shows for Glasto and Eurovision.

Wonder what their plans are now for the Olympics and Wimbledon?
I have asked the BBC whether they will re-air London 2012, by the way. Of course I have.
