I miss the people who died bc of structural & policy failures. Because of racism, ableism, intersectional oppression. I miss their potential, their love for their loved ones, the dreams they wanted to achieve. I know many are celebrating 2020's end. I just miss everyone we lost.
Sorry for a dark thought! It's just one I'm sitting with tonight and tomorrow and as much as possible for always - to have it ground the hopes I have for a future where we stop losing so many.
For a happier thread, here are some of the people I am joyful for in 2020:
And by "we stop losing so many", I mean it's not just about what we can do for each other. There's so much we need elected officials to do to help us keep each other safe. I'm holding onto hope in 2021 that we can get electeds to value lives so much more:
I'm not much for a personal year in review so instead, to celebrate New Year's Eve, here's a thread of people whose work and presence meant something to me this year (plus if you -still have donation dollars, some ideas!):
1/??? (here's a cat to keep your attention)
2/ @WFPPups: @SaulFKahn & @raphyjacobson are both dear to me but also encouraged my addiction to enter button fury via textbanking to #VoteWFP. Love @nywfp@workingfamilies for investing in youth leaders & WFP Pups texting parties were among the bright spots of the 2020 election.
3/@SaulFKahn also works w/ one of my big hopes for South Asian feminist, socialist representation in @NYCCityCouncil, @ShahanafromBK. With disability advocacy, radical language access & more, Shahana's work is grounded in experience & love. Help them win: shahanafrombk.com/donate
