My 10 year old daughter Viviana and I were so hyped the night before @AOC's June '18 primary race, watching her FB live streams & following her since. We're NYers but migrated abroad over 12 years ago bc no healthcare & few prospects despite our crazy expensive Master's degree.
As an educator, I've introduced @AOC 2 multiple groups of students from every continent & proudly explained how Queens, NY is the most diverse place on planet. Showed her "Message from the Future" as me & my Geography students choked back tears of hope & celebrated her "realness"
The political is always personal. I would've died had I not emigrated to Taiwan & received excellent single-payer coverage & medical attention that I was denied throughout my 20s while I was bartending & waiting tables in Manhattan.
Now, according to her, my anger is unjustified & people calling 4 urgent action are unsophisticated & violent. We should just trust her & the Dems after being told to hold our noses & vote 4 "lesser evil". My 10 year old knows better & listened intently 2 @SavageJoyMarie1's words
We also listened to Scott Desnoyers & @jimmy_dore & my 10 y/o immediately also undstd she & I wouldn't be alive today if not 4 Single Payer (in Taiwan). She also knows reason USA can't have it is our military plays war games & prepares 2 invade/kill our brothers/sisters @ world.
I'm humbled by the attention this thread received. Thanks to all comrades!🙏 I should point out that I wrote two articles in 2012 about my experience in Taiwan. They are personal w more details & observations. You can read the first here: healthcare-now.org/blog/my-life-u…
The second piece attempts (my writing chops are ever-developing) to argue that so few of us are actually responsible for the horrors of industrialized world and the least governments can do is to provide us with a means to be healthy. counterpunch.org/2012/11/23/oba…
