Risk Assessment documents.
I have seen schools insisting they are 'safe places to be & here is their new Risk Assessment document'
We are in unprecedented pandemic. On what sound scientificbasis will the Risk Assessment document stop transmission of the virus in schools? THREAD
Shops, pubs, leisure have strict rules involving masks, screens & distancing/ limited numbers to be classed as "covid secure".
As yet, no new school Risk Assessment I've seen has linked to new scientific advice based on the alarming transmission levels of new virus strain /2
I know that schools and local authorities want to reassure parents - that is to be commended. But this reassurance *must* be based on sound, scientific advice as to what a school needs to have in place to be Safe in January 2021 (very different needs to September 2020). /3
My advice is to not be dazzled by 'reassurances' from headteachers & councils.
Use your parental judgement.
Look for what you see in other public places as a basic:
- masks for pupils & staff
- social distancing 1m+
- reduced class sizes
- provision for testing & vaccines /4
Our schools need much more support from national government - and as concerned parents we must demand it /5

I've seen righteous concern about the data graphs shared at the start of the briefings, including this one. Looks completely overwhelming. Let me explain why it is important. THREAD 1/6
This is a heat map. The X axis along the bottom is time. The Y is age groups - losely identified as kids, youth, middle aged and elderly.
The darker the colour, the higher the number of positive tests. 2/6
So - what does it show? That the virus is driven by the teens and young adults. It got a hold when the universities went back. In the North West, North East and Yorkshire it got a hold and gradually spread to the older generations - which is the most deadly consequence. 3/6
