1971 - 2020

I'll mostly share music from DOOM that always moved me, some of my favorite tracks and lyrics. I may add to this thread over time, too.

I don't remember for sure how/when I first heard DOOM, but I'm pretty sure it was these 2 videos from Operation Doomsday, "Dead Bent" and "?"

I watched these over. And over. And over. I was stunned, by his lyrics, delivery, mask, and was like who IS this.

This was before YouTube, before hip-hop videos were as easy to find. Young me found these on centralcali dot com.

This is still one of my favorite MF DOOM tracks, with a moving tribute to his younger brother Subroc, struck by a car and killed in 1993.

Both those videos were directed by Adam Bhala Lough, alias "Piston Honda." I just found this archived page on meeting MF DOOM and shooting the videos. With details on the videos, DOOM, making the mask, the razor blade, the tribute to Subroc, and more. web.archive.org/web/2017081315…

I started finding out more about DOOM, piece by piece, learned about KMD, about DOOM as King Geedorah, about the Metal Fingers instrumental sets, downloaded everything I could find and bought records I could play on my show. I was hooked 😸

The first time I heard Raedawn it gave me chills. It still has that effect today.

MF DOOM first went by Zev Love X as part of KMD, here he is with brother Subroc in one of my favorite tracks, Peach Fuzz. Before the mask.

"Doomsday" from Operation: Doomsday is one of my favorite DOOM tracks ever. Sade sample and the most incredible flow and lyrics.

But if I was already blown away by all the MF DOOM tracks and aliases I was starting to discover, I was *sent* by his collaboration with Madlib in Madvillainy. I couldn't stop listening to this album. I couldn't stop.

Madlib's production and sampling and MF DOOM's lyrics (and Madlib/Quasimoto lyrics too!) all together was just legendary. And this is what finally started giving DOOM the recognition and attention he deserved.

No MF DOOM tribute is complete without this perfect track

Besides some incredible albums and collaborations, MF DOOM blessed every single track he was featured on.

"Mm Food" is another solid album, Potholderz (featuring Count Bass D) has got to be my favorite track on it
