The Complete Guide to Crush it on Twitter: Part-I

How to become great at Twitter, from writing to consuming to networking

Writing tweets has 4 things in common:

1. Compression: Make tweets as concise as possible.
Twitter rewards people who can take a lot of information and put it in a little bit of space
2/

2. No Spam: Don't use hashtags, they feel spammy. Do not tag 8 different people in your tweets saying "listen to me listen to me".

Write quality instead. Help make people smarter on Twitter.
3/

Twitter themselves say that your content should contain no more than 2 pieces clickable text (hashtags or @), it makes the tweet easier to read.

There's no hashtag that'll make your tweet go viral. Always go for quality and clarity. Matthew recommends to avoid hashtags or @
4/

3. Simplicity: People don't read Twitter, they browse it. The thing to do is catching people's attention in the first line and then giving them the context
5/

4. Novelty: Surprise the reader with a new and interesting idea.

VCs are so good at Twitter because of the novelty, they are always spending time trying to look at ways of the world, that people don't ordinarily look at.
6/

Trying to see the things that other people don't see. They try to see they secrets hidden is plain sight. If you can give something to people that makes them say, "whoa, I've always known that, but I've never put words to that sensation", works really really well on Twitter.
7/

The tweets that get the most retweets are that ones that make people feel that it's in their soul but they've never put pen to paper, and retweets are how you get the most impressions.
8/

Curate Your Feed:

If you wanna become great at writing on Twitter, read great tweeters.

Who to follow on Twitter:

You should follow individuals not publications: Looks for interesting individual accounts
9/

Avoid Twitter recommendations: Twitter will lead you to celebrities, not interesting people. Avoid ending up in a news heavy Twitter feed.
10/

Follow the people who are liked by the people that you like. Scroll the likes and replies of people that you like, and you'll find a lot of good accounts.
11/

Who to Unfollow on Twitter:

Once you begin to build your audience, who to unfollow becomes much more important. If somebody makes you stressed or is annoying you, just unfollow them.
12/

Remember, you wanna curate an environment where you wanna be happy, peaceful, interesting healthy, and nurturing.
13/

Be very deliberate and very discerning about who you're letting into your mind, cuz when you're following someone on Twitter, you're giving them permission to brainwash you 280 characters at a time with idea after idea after idea.
14/

Use that mute and unfollow button without mercy to keep your feed as healthy as possible.

This is the secret to unlocking the value of Twitter. Twitter doesn't have as many users as Instagram or TIk Tok because it takes work to get that feed that makes sense for you.
15/

You go on Insta and see some pretty pictures and you enjoy it.

On Twitter, you put in the work, you get the value.
16/

Your Twitter Presence

What is the Twitter Karizma and how to attain it

First line of your tweet should be separated from the remaining text and should act as a hook, kinda like a subject line.
17/

Conciseness is really important. Don't use 5 words when you can use 2. Present your information in a way that's easy to read.

We have drones that are flying overhead. How long before those things are carrying larger and larger payloads, but carry humans all the way. Maybe not, but there's lots of other electric plane companies coming.

Naval: The Boston ecosystem has always regretting that they've sort of lost these companies.

India has to make sure it doesn't lose as entrepreneurs. And the way to do that is to give them the freedom to innovate. Everyone should be an entrepreneur.
2/

Everyone has a phone should be able to get a job through the phone. There's one level beyond that, that comes after that, which is everyone has a phone, should be a creator for the phone. And that's what platforms are enabling.

Why you should define your fears instead of your goals | By @tferriss

In 1999, one day, Tim was sitting in his van, when he had decided to commit suicide.
And he went from deciding to full blown planning very quickly.

1/
2/

He was really close to death. The only reason he took his finger off the trigger, was a few lucky coincidences.

The element of chance scared him the most. Tim was very methodical about ways of managing his ups and downs.
3/

Many normal people may have 6-10 major depressive episodes in their lives, Tim had 50+, cuz he has Bipolar Depression.

The way Indian society connects grades with intelligence is super toxic in long term.

I've heard many people say, "I was really intelligent back in school, idk what happened to me in college, I became really dumb"

1/
2/

Folks really start measuring their whole self worth only on the basis of their grades, not realizing how it's hurting them

They then get trapped in a loop; "I'm dumb because I score low grades" 🔁 "I score low grades because I'm dumb"
3/

And the byproduct of the this loop is, the person misjudging him/herself as someone below average and thus losing confidence and lowering self-esteem

This mentality then stops them from attempting anything extraordinary in the first place.
