THREAD: Very light version of an Opposition report using performance data.
This will include versions of work I have and would use at professional clubs.
The aim of this is to deliver clear, concise messages to the coaching staff heading into the game-week. #AffectBehaviours
I'd always start with the basics. Set the scene; simple form guide in there, and some info on their injured players.
We don't always need to use technical data. Every club/analysis department on the planet will try to predict the oppositions next line-up. Can data help?
Again - every department will do this. How have our oppo recently lined up? (And probably their opponents too!)
Using data and @tableau, we can get this plotted for every game anywhere on the planet - automatically! Save time on the mundane tasks = more time doing real analysis!
We've seen their recent line-ups. We know which players are often used.
Do they often change shape? Do they change shape depending on who they play? Again, data can help answer these questions and we can start to predict a line-up. (Forgive me Gills fans if I'm way off here).
Now we can start to get more granular. Who are their goal threats? Where do they shoot from?
Vadaine Oliver highlighted as a key threat here - at club level I'd include a link to some clips of his shots/goals too.
*Data may well be incorrect here, I've knocked this up sharpish.
@JordanGr_11 has been Gillingham's biggest threat this season.
Where does he affect the game? How does he create?
Again - we can go further here, and look at individual passes as oppose to a 'heat map'.
I'd certainly be watching clips of him operating in that wide right area!
Back to basics to close it out. Key takeaways for the coaching staff (in green).
I'd have alluded to these in more detail throughout the report - and linked to the video.
In terms of delivery - for me I wouldn't want this going out any later than today (for Saturday kick off).
There you go, wrapped up in an hour! ⚽️📊🎊
Very much a light version of what I'd produce/have produced - but there is nothing there I wouldn't be happy showing the coaching staff (apart from the fonts - absolutely rascal, I apologise for that).
Those following along, you'll have noticed I've not tried to re-invent the wheel there.
