For people marching in DC in the Name of Christ - give this up. Go home and love your neighbor, serve your city, and build up your brothers and sisters in your church. Your theocratic visions cannot be met by a US President of any party. I'm glad you're praying, but...
...theocracy of the entire cosmos is what Jesus *already* has - he needs no votes or elections being overturned to establish his rule. I fear you've succumbed to a bewitching idol of power, supposing that a particular man will save us. He won't. He can't. But there's more.
Please consider what your public anger, faux displays of spirituality, and in some cases just plain weirdness do to the cause of the Gospel in our world. I am going to be blunt with you. You're harming the Church and the Church's witness. Please stop. You're branding Jesus as GOP
You've so equated the Kingdom of God with a particular vision of America, the Gospel's power with a political party, and the purpose of God with one man, that you've reduced the word Evangelical to a cul-de-sac of political power plays. What tragic impoverishment. Please stop.
Yes, protest marches are often good & needed, as are huge gatherings in DC of citizens from across the country to show leaders the issues we think matter. That's perfectly good and right. But refrain from violence, hatred, and undermining the Gospel's progress in our world.
Lastly, all of you Christian leaders who constantly advocate for some US cultural Christian kingdom & speak of little more than your brand of politics, who are infinitely more concerned for an election cycle than the Great Commission, close your podcast and be quiet for a year...
Get out of your echo chamber and work in a shelter or go on a mission trip to a place where people walk for three days just to hear the Scriptures taught. Put your efforts into supporting the emerging Church in the developing world. It's not too late to turn back to Jesus...
... to turn away from these deceptive dreams of an American vision of the Kingdom and Church dominance, and turn to people in need in all nations and from all nations, many right there in your own city. Give up using fear and anger to raise money, and start giving it away instead
You and the movement you've led and furthered, this evangelical nationalist movement, has done incredible harm to so many people here and made the work of missionaries around the world immeasurably more difficult. Because grace is greater still, it's not too late to change. Do it
Again, all for marches, protests, and advocating for your political convictions... but let's stop confusing Christ the Eternal King with our Politicians and their temporal administrations.
"He has shown you O man what is good and what the Lord requires of you: do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God." - Micah
I wrote & published this thread 10 hours ago, long before the assault on the Capitol, an assault not just on a space that represents our Democracy, but on those who serve there, and on our Democracy itself. I especially urged those who name the Name of Christ to leave...
..that was long before the assault. Sadly, I saw people engaged in the attack carrying 'Jesus' banners and Bibles. Those who did so abused the Name of Christ & took his name in vain. They then, via hatred & violence of mouth, heart, & hand, denied by their actions the great...
...virtues of the Faith they claim to profess. Brothers and Sisters, I beg you to forsake the idolatrous notion that would so elevate a Party or Person in your view that you would with your actions deny the merciful and loving Sovereign Savior to defend a political administration
Go home. But more vitally, go to your knees in repentance. As a Pastor, I am repenting tonight. I have failed - the Church has failed - to make disciples of the Savior and his teaching in the Sermon on the Mount to such an extent that large numbers of believers think this is OK.
It isn't. It's that simple. You have one King - Jesus, and he NEVER would condone your assault on people, property, and principle. I'm sorry I failed you.

Epiphany - "a sudden realization--a flash of recognition in which someone or something is seen in a new light." That's one possible definition, though highly personal and subjective. A Christian Feast then? Yes, but for good reason. First of all...
...its a celebration of God making his salvation known to the whole world, the Magi's visit both partial fulfillment of the promise to Abraham and all the prophets, and a dramatic prophecy of what history will look like at the end: "All nations will come and worship." Secondly...
Epiphany isn't about our capacity to perceive God without his aid, but a confession of his grace opening our eyes to the reality of Christ. The Magi saw and worshipped; Herod saw, and was enraged. What is our response to the vision - the epiphany - of God's saving rule in Christ?
Brightest and best of the sons of the morning,
dawn on our darkness, and lend us thine aid;
star of the east, the horizon adorning,
guide where our infant Redeemer is laid.
Cold on his cradle the dew-drops are shining;
low lies his head with the beasts of the stall;
angels adore him in slumber reclining,
Maker and Monarch and Saviour of all.
Say, shall we yield him, in costly devotion,
odours of Edom, and offerings divine,
gems of the mountain, and pearls of the ocean,
myrrh from the forest, or gold from the mine?
Pastors aren't on the job to save America. We are here to announce its eventual demise & replacement with something that is already here and growing ever more powerful in this world every day - the Kingdom of God. The Church's mission isn't to make America great but Jesus known.
In that regard, while I favor a Capitalism rooted in service, concern for others, & accountable practices, it is, together with Socialism just one more label for a power center that will fall. The flags of men will be folded up before the unfurled banners of Christ the King.
That's what pastors announce. Christian faith is not an exercise for weekend warriors. If anyone expects their pastors to simply affirm them in their marginalizing of ultimate reality, all in the name of the so-called relevant, or worse, in the service of their political agenda,
O Word of God Incarnate,
O Wisdom from on high,
O Truth unchanged, unchanging,
O light of our dark sky;
we praise thee for the radiance
that from the hallowed page,
a lantern to our footsteps
shines on from age to age.
The church from her dear Master
received the gift divine,
and still that light she lifteth
o'er all the earth to shine.
It is the golden casket,
where gems of truth are stored;
it is the heav'n-drawn picture
of Christ, the living Word.
It floateth like a banner
before God's host unfurled;
it shineth like a beacon
above the darkling world.
It is the chart and compass
that o'er life's surging sea,
'mid mists and rocks and quicksands,
still guides, O Christ, to thee.
Throughout Advent & Christman @c3franklintn is looking deeply into Galatians 4:4-7 and discovering -
When God acted - at the perfect time
What God did - He sent his Son
How God did this - Born of woman/born under the Law
Why God did this - to redeem us from slavery & adopt us
What God's act means now - we are his adopted family, liberated from the most terrible chains, and made heirs of the greatest treasure. We have the Spirit living within us and bringing us into personal & eternal communion with God. He who was a stranger is now 'Abba'
Here is the text -
"But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons...
