On the day of the 2016 inauguration, while I was at a conference of academics who brought me in to chat as they were all gathering science data, fearful that a lot of it would be taken down or deleted
I was sent a nice notification that years and years of alt-right and militia boards, subboards, postings and rants were already being packed up and preserved, and those mechanisms would run full bore
They've been running for years
they're running now
see you in the future

For my non-US friends (I always appreciate my Parliament-explainer friends):
* US House: Significant percentage of dumbs who get their seats in regions because they're with the dominant party
* US Senate: The scary legislative Machiavellians who you see portrayed in movies
It's a rule of thumb, of course - got a few dumb senators, a few clever-as-diamonds house representatives. But when you see Senators do clever walk-the-line speeches and house reps do "pull cork on the boat's bottom to let the water inside drain" out-of-touch things, that's why
That's why several senators quietly backed the votes to invalidate election results, and some included speeches but they were carefully phrased - for possible 2024 runs, to keep that base. They're thinking that far out.
Upon the death of Kelly Flock, I'm going to take this moment to mention some Video Game people who many of you never heard of, who (I believe) are still with us, just to not have accolades about them AFTER they're gone.
@GinaMurrell1 I was watching an overview of the production of French Connection and since the two cops who the story is nominally about were producers, and still on the force, they pulled insane connections to get the shots they wanted and the locations they wanted.
There's a scene where there's a traffic jam on the bridge. How did they get it? The crew just BLOCKED THE BRIDGE and the cops used their connections to slow down any police reaction to it!
The famed car chase where they drove through the streets at 70mph? They got it by JUST DRIVING THROUGH THE STREETS AT 70MPH WITHOUT TELLING ANYONE. The first, like, 5 blocks of it were blocked off and they KEPT GOING
2021 is just around the corner, and it's the first year since Hans Reiser got sent to jail that he can apply for Parole.
Since he went to jail for strangling his wife to death while their two children were in the house, he probably shouldn't get parole.
As part of his plea deal, Reiser had to completely describe the killing and disposing of Nina Sharanova's body. During this confession, he showed remorse in the fact he'd used an "embarassing" judo grip to strangle her. (He was trained in judo).
This wasn't the first bargain he'd tried to strike in the case; refusing to admit he'd done the crime, he instead bargained to even reveal the woods where her body was buried in return for a 3 year sentence, which would have put him out months after the trial. They declined.
