Democratic governance is taking some hits this week, which makes it more important than ever to end the disenfranchisement of Black and brown voters in Illinois by establishing an elected representative school board for the city of Chicago. #ERSBnow#HB2267
More than 1 in 3 Latinx students in Illinois and almost 1 in 2 Black students attend public school in a district without an elected school board. #ERSBnow
Nearly half of the Illinois’s Black residents cannot elect their school board, but < 15% of white residents cannot. The lack of an elected school board in Chicago disproportionately disenfranchises voters of color. #ERSBnow

Call Senate President Harmon & ask what he'll do to ensure that Chicagoans have the same right to choose their school board that he and his neighbors in Oak Park already have: (217) 782-8176
Twenty-five years of mayoral control of CPS has resulted in a district that doesn't listen to parents, students and teachers. A global pandemic shows how dangerous that is. Chicago needs an elected representative school board now.
Mayor Lightfoot is never follow through on her campaign promise to implement a fully elected board. (Quote in image from ilfps.org/mayoralquestio…) No mayor will cede power over 1/2 the city's tax base willingly. ILGA needs to act. Senate passage of HB2267 will get this done.
The correct response is not, unlike at least two Chicago Board of Ed members have done, to deny that this is a cheating scandal. It is a cheating scandal, among other things.
Meeting a great group of parents impacted and/or concerned about #StudentDataProtection.
