BREAKING: White House withdraws the nomination of acting DHS Sec. Wolf to be permanent DHS secretary shortly after he sent a statement condemning Wednesday's violence at the US Capitol.
White House spokesperson: “The withdrawal occurred yesterday and was not related at all to Wednesday’s events or the Acting Secretary’s comments this morning. Acting Secretary Wolf remains the acting secretary and continues to perform the duties of his office."
NEW: Acting AG Rosen:
"Some participants in yesterday’s violence will be charged today, and we will continue to methodically assess evidence, charge crimes and make arrests in the coming days and weeks to ensure that those responsible are held accountable under the law.”
Rep. Tim Ryan, who chairs a key subcommittee with jurisdiction over the Capitol, tells reporters that as many as 60 Capitol Police officers were injured Wednesday, including 15 hospitalized and 1 in critical condition. Many were hit in the head with lead pipes, he says.

Senate Majority Leader McConnell: "The U.S. Senate will not be intimidated. We will not be kept out of this chamber by thugs, mobs or threats. We will not bow to lawlessness or intimidation. We are back at our posts, we will discharge our duty under the Constitution"
Senate Minority Leader Schumer: "This will be a stain on our country not so easily washed away. The final, terrible, indelible legacy of the 45th president of the United States. Undoubtedly our worst."

The phone call features the president, days before he is set to leave office, pleading with Raffensperger to alter the vote total, and launching into a barrage of discredited conspiracy theories about the election.
“The people of Georgia are angry, the people in the country are angry,” Trump said. “And there’s nothing wrong with saying, you know, um, that you’ve recalculated.”
"Well, Mr. President, the challenge that you have is, the data you have is wrong," Raffensperger responded.
