THREAD: A year and two days ago I was a speaker at the No Hate, No Fear rally against antisemitism. And then you have yesterday.
With visible Jews pouring seltzer in people's eyes, Chabad flags flying amongst the chaos, posts and selfies of proudly visible Jews who attended, plus what I'm sure is a decent amount of non-visible Jews partaking as well.
And I'm not sure any of them--not to mention non-Trump Jews--fully realize the implications and magnitude of yesterday's disaster. So here's a few:
1-MAGATs are saying the rioting wasn't them but undercover Antifa/BLM who were "bussed in" to infiltrate and hijack their "cause". Who do these folk often claim funds both? Jews. Who was visible there? Jews. Who is often accused of "bussing people in" to affect elections? Jews.
Need I connect those dots for you?
2-On the back of indignant handwringing about charges of dual-loyalty [despite the easily observable fact that both the Israeli and American flags hang side by side in most synagogues across the country]...
...a bunch of Jews felt so ingratiated towards a president because "he moved the embassy" and he's "good for Israel" that they ACTIVELY AIDED IN THE ATTEMPTED INSURRECTION of the government of the country they DO live in because of how "good" he was for a country that they don't.
If I were an anti-semite I'd be practically salivating at the antisemitic trope Bingo that was just handed over and proven.
3-Then we have the Ben Shapiros and ZOAs and AIPACs frantically backpedaling, distancing, and disavowing, after four years of support, coddling, and enabling.
Almost as if they had a collective "Oh shit, wait. We DON'T live in Israel. And he's actually bad for this country. Maybe we should've aligned our moral compass with the good of ALL ppl in this country" come-to-Moses moment. Far too little, prodigiously too late, guys.
4-Visibly Jewish folk were marching and rioting and rushing the Capitol alongside notorious Holocaust-deniers and several different flavors of Nazis.
If I were a Zionist I'd be absolutely gutted that, from this point on, there is NO "moral high ground" to criticize or dismiss JVP, If Not Now, et al--and DEFINITELY not Neturei Karta--because of the company they willingly keep.
The Anti-Zionist crowd stands with people who--at least on paper--are against a country existing. Yesterday Jews stood with people who--on EVERYTHING--are against *Jews* existing.
5-I hope everyone's ready for the largest wave of antisemitism this country has ever seen.
From the right, as infiltrators who orchestrated the fiasco to undermine their stance and mission. From the left, as course-correction against those who stood with everything the left has been fighting against for the past four years.
6-My grandmother used to say that there would be a second Holocaust and it would happen in America.
Bc Jews never learned from those lessons of aligning with despots, standing idly by as others are persecuted so long as "we" are safe and said despot is "good" for our causes even as they mow down others',& let alone the racism and discrimination we see even INSIDE our community.
Looking at yesterday's events, and the years of support leading up to it, tell me, was she wrong?

To lean in, imagine its 1998. You've spent 23 yrs being a star wars fan. Then the prequels come out, & a new bunch of fans crop up and start calling you "original trilogy" fans. You're like "wtf is this 'original trilogy' deal? It's *just* "star wars". I'm *just* a star wars fan"
"Ok whatever, I guess am an OT star wars fan now then." Then 20 yrs later, the new crop gets mad at Luke's force projection fighting kylo ren. "Its inauthentic and not star wars", they say.
Then all the OT fans reach into their EU source books, from before "OT" was a thing and say "uh, force projection was literally here the whole time"

For everyone in their feelings about the jewish view on the afterlife, plz quote one non Anglo reform responsa that states such. Then we can talk. Thx.
For reference, *Judaism* believes in a Gd. But there are *jews* who dont. And there is no atheist source or tradition in jewish text.
*jews* can believe/practice whatever they want. Doesnt change what *judaism* says

Alright. Jews and the afterlife. A thread.
Judaism has always talked about the afterlife and always had one. Its in fact codified into the first blessing of the Amidah with the concept of "tchiyat hametim/the resurrection of the dead."
Where are the dead being resurrected from? From the afterlife that they hang out in after passing and judgement, and where the wait until the coming of Mashiach. There is much discussion on the topic in the Talmud.
Now, do Jews *focus* on the afterlife? No. Bc the focus is the here and now which is building our afterlife "credit" as it were.

So we're all friends here right? Great. I have some LGBTQ/cis questions. Calm not, I'm not gonna make a hard left [right?] into being "that guy"?
Question 1: back in the day "my partner" was LGBTQ language. When and why did heteros start adopting it?
Question 2: again, back in my day, "queer" used to be bi/pan/etc language. When and why did it get adopted by everyone under the LGBTQ umbrella?

This is why history is important. And it's a testimony as to how Black history gets erased. This street is named after my great-grandfather. It was renamed after him, on the corner where his mansion stood and was firebombed when he was at least 88. (1/x) Image
("At least" because he never really stopped lying about his age after he ran away from his plantation at age 5). I've heard about this street my entire life.
When I wrote my first book, I wanted to include this piece of history, complete with concrete dates to shut down any naysayers.

for the millionth time [perhaps maybe the 1st on twitter], im not a leftist. im not a liberal. im a jew and that identity/mission transcends the subjective and amorphous political identities that do exist, have existed, or will ever exist.
b/c there are times when torah/halacha is liberal. or conservative. or socialist. or democratic. or communist. or monarchist.
and to lock oneself into a political identity is to inherently put one's politics on a collision course with one's judaism
