Latin America to America

There’s an old joke in Latin America that the reason there's never been a coup in the US is that there's no US embassy there.

Lots of variations of that joke going around today.

This chart from Reddit is making the rounds, but it severely under reports the number of “successful” coups in Latin America.

In Chile there at least four more besides the one in 1973

And even the small unsuccessful ones, weren’t simple affairs. For example, this one was smaller in scale than the events of January 6th:
