Biden says he will lay out the framework for the next round of covid relief next week. “We need more direct relief flowing to families, small businesses,” he says.
In addition to calling for more crisis economic relief, Biden says that with Democratic majorities in both chambers of Congress, it should be possible to raise it to $15 an hour. “People in both parties recognize it’s time to raise the minimum wage,” he says.
Biden: “The bottom line is we’re in the midst of the most unequal economic and jobs crisis in modern history.”
Biden gives a nod to Bernie Sanders's push for labor secretary, saying he gave "serious consideration" to it. Ultimately, he says, he and Sanders agreed that after the Georgia results, it was important for Bernie to stay in Senate bc "we can't put control of the Senate at risk."
Biden continuing to show respect to Sanders and his supporters in mentioning that he seriously considered the Vermont senator for labor secretary. He hasn't mentioned a single other candidate for a job while rolling out nominees.
“We’re going to get through this,” Biden says. “Help is on the way.”
