Donald Trump looks set to become the first American president to be impeached for a second time as Democrats accused him of fomenting a “coup” at the US Capitol building that left five people dead. theguardian.com/us-news/2021/j…
The historic effort gained momentum on Friday when a police officer was known to be killed when a pro-Trump mob stormed the seat of American democracy in Washington, after the president encouraged supporters to “fight like hell” to overturn the result of November’s election.
Democrats in the House, where they hold a majority, intend to speed ahead with Trump’s impeachment next week.
The Senate would hold a trial and vote on his removal from office, with a two-thirds majority required for conviction.
Some Republicans say they will be in support
Pelosi and the Senate minority leader, called for immediate impeachment proceedings if Mike Pence, vice-president, and cabinet refuse to invoke the 25th amendment to the US constitution, stripping the president of his powers if he cannot discharge the duties of his office.

Asked about the role of the president – who told the crowd to head to the Capitol and “fight like hell” – the acting US attorney said: “We are looking at all actors here, and anyone that had a role, if the evidence fits the element of a crime, they’re going to be charged.”
Trump claimed he had “immediately deployed the national guard and federal law enforcement to secure the building and expel the intruders”. Multiple news outlets have reported that it was Mike Pence, not Trump, who deployed the national guard, while Trump resisted the measure.

Twitter locked Trump out of his account for 12 hours & requires him to delete 3 tweets or his account will remain suspended indefinitely. If Trump again violates the policies, his account will be permanently suspended from Twitter.
But he still has power! theguardian.com/us-news/2021/j…
The action is the most aggressive yet from Twitter and it comes after it joined Facebook and YouTube in removing a video post from Trump’s account in which the president praised the protestors.
In a video, Trump urged his supporters to “go home”, but also gave legitimacy to the falsehoods that fueled the attempted insurrection, calling the election “stolen”.
Later, Trump again falsely claimed his “election victory” was “unceremoniously” and “viciously” stripped away.
