There's a fascist movement in this country that attempted a coup this week.

THE CAPITOL COUP OF 2021 is a video that explains how this happened and details the very real threat we're still facing.

Let people know about this.

The truth is that this moment of crisis resembles past crises in history where fascists overthrew societies. If we’re going to make it out of this moment with anything resembling democracy, we need to understand it, reject it, and get organized against it.
I made this video as an explainer and an introduction to a lot of the research I’ve been doing on our gathering fascist threat. We’re at a moment where a lot of people are starting to understand things aren’t okay. Have conversations with them, get the word out.
It goes so much deeper than Trump, who is a symptom not the disease. We have to address the massive problems in this country or else this fascist movement is going to continue growing in size and power. It’s not just going away.

It’s not just whether there will be violence or another attempted coup over the next nine days. It’s the absolute certainty there’ll be more violence and more intentional undermining of government and shared society if this existential crisis isn’t addressed.
We’re watching a fascistic movement. It’s not just a moment of violence or a brief window. It’s a sustained, coordinated, coalescing movement that’s feeding off weaponized conspiracy theories and societal alienation and anger. It’s not just going away.
We have to be ready for more violence and more coup attempts in the very near future, but if they’re avoided, if they don’t happen, we can’t just believe we’re out of the deep, deep water, because this has been building for years and it’s only getting worse.

We're facing a fascistic movement that's backed by the wealthy and powerful who want to dismantle government, an administration and party desperate to cling to power, a racist evangelical base, and a mob lost in weaponized conspiracy theories.

This video is a primer and explainer of the complicated and frightening moment we find ourselves in, a crisis that is a long, long time coming and that won't simply stop unless we address it and the underlying factors.

Have the hard conversations about this. Reject this.
Talk to the people around you about what this coup attempt was, the fascist movement growing in this country, and the very real history the wealthy and powerful don't want you to know.

The only we way we're going to escape this is to expose what it is and fight against it.

While politicians, pundits, and media wring their hands over whether to call this a coup attempt or if they should hold Trump accountable, the fascists are openly planning armed insurrection and escalated operations, including targeting leaders and journalists.
That’s not hyperbole. That’s not conjecture. In the open these fascists are talking about mass murderers and further maneuvers to disable government, interrupt the transfer of power, and realize a fascistic ethnostate.

This crisis is real and growing by the day.
We’ve been telling you for years now this was coming and what they were going to do. None of this is hard to find or understand. It’s willful ignorance that keeps this from being universally obvious, and even after a coup attempt people are still trying to deny the obvious truth.

Maybe it’s an ongoing and larger problem that a president who threatened for years that certain supporters would “get tough” directed an attempted coup that included members of law enforcement and the military and was aided by officers in charge of protecting Congress.
And maybe it deserves more attention that Secret Service had to shake up its ranks for fear that people loyal to Trump couldn’t be trusted protecting the next administration.

Or that foreign governments are seeing all of this as an inside job.
People are already minimizing what happened Wednesday and relying on classist lenses to diminish what was an attempted coup inspired by a president, involved military and law enforcement, the refusal of internal structures to do their jobs, and a general stand down from defense.

People wondering if yesterday will be a moment of conscience for diehard Trumpists. A few might hide their MAGA hats, but the cult already has its alternate reality replete with antifa infiltrators and psy-op campaigns.

The lie is water. It finds the path of least resistance.
Here’s the thing. All of this is about malleability. Trumpists will deny the worst parts of yesterday and project them on boogeymen, but will use the victory of having shown force and overtaken the Capitol for recruitment and mobilization.
Honestly, an apt comparison is the OKC Bombing, a massive tragedy that was birthed by a domestic terrorism movement. Rhetoric softened for a media cycle and meanwhile the movement continued on, unabated, while it grew and grew and grew.

All right.

We need to talk about how Trump and the GOP are marketing themselves as the Southern Fire-Eaters who spurred secession and the Civil War and how that time bizarrely mirrors our own.

Here's a taste of what I write about in AMERICAN RULE.

This ad that's making the rounds by Lauren Boebert, in which she brags about taking her gun to Congress, is not just empty posturing. It reflects a growing tension in our government that seems to be trending toward the societal discord and violence of the Civil War.

The way our history is taught, the Civil War just...kind of happened. Out of nowhere. But there were many forces involved and they reflect what we're going through now.

To understand, we need to look at those forces and the people who benefited and cultivated them.
