I was encouraged by my partner to share this email that I sent to Jason Kenney on Friday. Because I genuinely do not believe that I will receive a response, I figured I could air it all out here as a thread.
I want to let you know how much you and the @UCPCaucus have failed the people of Alberta. From the start, you have used divisive, Trump-style rhetoric to prey on peopleβs fears and financial insecurities.
It is no surprise, then, that your response during a global health crisis would consist of double standards and poorly thought out, reactionary policies. You have consistently put students and teachers at risk by giving no support or comprehensive reopening strategy
You are responsible for the stress that is currently on health care workers that have resulted from weak COVID regulations and budget cuts.
You have cut funding and support to programs that would assist houseless folks and folks managing and living with addictions during an opioid epidemic, and you have attempted to decimate our parks system for private interest.
You have consistently put the blame for COVID spikes on us, while providing minimal regulations and support for small businesses and those who are suffering as a result of the pandemic.
You have asked us to go into school while not offering support to keep students and teachers safe. Moreover, your party has flouted the regulations that were in place for their own pleasure. We have missed traditions. We have missed funerals. This corruption will not be forgotten
I am asking you to resign. In doing so, I am holding you to your own standards in calling for firing those who are upholding political corruption.
As a born-and-raised Albertan, I am sure that you will value this opinion. After all, you have expressed your mission is to work for Albertans.
Remember that actions are louder than words, and your actions have demonstrated that you only care about protecting big business interests and your own party members.
Thank you for all the love here! I genuinely had no idea this would garner such a strong response: this is so empowering. Together we can speak up against the UCP's mission of radical privatization!
Kenney and the UCP have also cut funding to charitable groups that help Queer youth. This is on top of scrapping specific language to protect students who attend GSAs/QSAs in schools.
If you are able, consider donating to the following Queer support groups:
