Why is there a contest?

Also, why does Matt Gaetz get attention that Underwood doesn’t?
What does “overlooked” mean? I think Pelosi and Dem leadership like Underwood.
I also don’t know if Underwood receives the scrutiny and death threats that AOC or Omar do. Some people would prefer a low profile if that’s the trade off.
I’d rather do my job without worrying about my car exploding.

And Underwood is usually praised for getting shit done, so it’s not like a relatively low profile is preventing her from delivering.
I dunno. I feel like people are offended on Underwood’s behalf that she’s not on magazine covers or is as popular as AOC. But I don’t know that she cares.

Writer geek in me would argue Chekhov's gun appeared when Trump refused to concede on Nov. 7. This was how the story was destined to end.
Trump was either going to overturn the election and destroy democracy or he was going to lose and severely damage democracy.
There is arguably no scenario where Trump’s malignant narcissism would’ve permitted him to lose graciously. We probably would’ve seen the same crap play out in 2016 only he would’ve have been as powerful (and dangerous).

Trump hasn’t invited Biden to the White House like every past president in both our lifetimes.

His “concession” speech was one of the least gracious in memory and didn’t even mention Biden or congratulate him. You would never accept this from a Democratic POTUS.
Trump has also refused to attend Biden’s inauguration, another key part of a peaceful transfer of power.
This isn’t merely ceremony. And it’s all the more important after the past 2 months, when Trump accused Biden and Democrats of fraud.

As @Nate_Cohn said, there is no legislation that will promote voter confidence when losers like Trump are willing to spread lies and conspiracy theories.
The irony is that the polls were correct mostly for the presidential race. And off the most in Senate and House results. The GOP did better than predicted down ballot but they were the ones shouting fraud!
Dear God, imagine the reverse: Polls predicting GOP gains down ballot but instead Dems picked up seats.

This is demonstrably false.

He hasn’t retracted the lie that the election was stolen. Until he does, you can expect more violence that puts the incoming administration at risk.
Trump tried a coup, failed, and I guess ... that’s it? I thought Republicans were tough on terrorism.
Trump won’t even attend the inauguration, which is also likely to make potential violence more likely.

Did Dershowitz get his law degree from a bubble gum machine? I’m reminded of something involving crowded theaters and crying fire.
The key point here is that the campaign was over. It’s been over for months. Trump can’t appeal to voters in an effort to change his fate.
Trump was by this point resorting to intimidation and thuggery.

Inciting people to disrupt a Supreme Court confirmation hearing isn’t acceptable but those are actually votes that the senators can make based on public opinion if they choose.

This is but one of many examples of where white men might want to stay in their lane or at least recognize that their professional worth and even their very humanity are rarely publicly challenged.
If you’re a POC or a woman in general, you likely have tons of stories where you’ve had to fight for respect that’s given without question to the most sorry-ass white men (the outgoing president is an obvious example).
I’ve noticed this is something that most white men rarely have the humility to do. “Why are all these people who AREN’T white men upset about this issue. I could try to understand, but naaah, I’m just gonna say it’s silly. That’s how I roll. It’s part of my lifestyle."
