I’ve come to realize this is literally just because death is so rare in US kid cartoons, and even US teen media to a certain point, and it’s pretty crazy how death is held to such a standard and then US video game culture normalizes it as if that is a step to obtaining maturity.
Of course I love video games! And video games crutch on a basis of elimination, so when the themeing doesn’t take death seriously there either, you can see where the structures of US child-teen development stem and where more docile vs hostile mentalities are being focused on.
I can only speak for the US side of things, and the JP side of course is waxing and waning with their own articulates of the same subject. So as a US teacher who sees these certain behaviors, become accepted solutions in developing kids logics gets me TICKED
