We're better than this.

Letting our lives be run by fear. We're better than this.

Snitching on the people who should be able to trust us. We're better than this.

Putting millions at risk so I can feel "safe". We're better than this.
Robbing our children and grandchildren of the opportunities we've had in life. We're better than this.

Accepting unscientific responses because we don't want to question. We're better than this.
Letting our country be divided along so many different lines. We're better than this.
How do I know we're better than that? Because I know Canadian people. We are strong, we care for our neighbors, we search for the truth and don't accept an answer just because someone claims to know what's best for us.
We look to the future, to do what we can for coming generations, so their lives can be better, so our country will have a positive impact on the world.
Canadians can disagree with each other and not hate because someone thinks differently. Canadians are independant thinkers who don't follow the herd.

Let's remember who we are.

Proclamation No. 1081, dated September 21, 1972, Pres. Ferdinand Marcos declared Martial Law in the Philippines. Barely 10 years old at that time, but the ominous sound of sirens, the menacing presence of the military deployed across the country, and the imposition of CURFEW. Image
Media censorship ensued with only the Philippine Daily Express allowed to print and TV networks shutdown. The pretext of this was widespread political violence, rampant lawlessness by agitators and economic free fall.
In other words, a "national crisis" warranted this draconian reach of the sitting President. Marcos retained all of his powers as dictator until his ouster in 1986.
