Around the partition of the subcontinent, the British Indian Army comprised of some 30-36% Muslims, 8% Sikhs, while the rest were Hindus, including Gurkhas of Nepali background, and Indian Christians, and Anglo-Indians.
After the independence, the central government.. Image

..in New Delhi was faced with a sensitive question: Will the Muslim armymen and future recruits with kin across the frontier in the enemy country become a fifth column?

Former Indian Army Chief Gen.K.M. Cariappa [1949-53] was suspicious of Muslims in Indian Army. Image
3/
In an offensive titled diatribe published in the Organiser, the mouthpiece of the Hindu extremist organization called the RSS, Cariappa bluntly declared:
"Muslim loyalty seems to be primarily to Pakistan. This is a crime unpardonable.."
4/
Others may in fact have shared Gen Cariappa's charge against Muslims, as the civil servant-historian G.D. Khosla reported rumors about Muslim infidelity to the nation floating in New Delhi around the same time.

In 1953 than Mahavir Tyagi, the Minister of state for defense..
5/
..told the Aligarh University Union that:
"..the percentage of Muslims in the Armed forces which was 32% at the time of partition has come down to two..."

Sheikh Abdullah as the first post-independence CM of Kashmir, later wrote that he was shocked when he came across.. Image
6/
..secret circulars banning Muslim recruitment, when Sheikh Abdullah asked Gen. K.M. Cariappa why Kargil Muslims were not recruited to which he replied that their loyalty to India was suspect!
7/
In April 2001 a handout issued by the Indian Army through the defense wing of the PIB in Jammu, reads:
"No vacancy for Muslims and tradesmen".

Despite protests in the IOJK Legislative assembly, and by the then CM Farooq Abdullah, the Army didn't deny its statement. Image
8/
Lt Gen M.L. Chibber the Adjutant-General in 1980-82, gave voice to similar prejudices when he declared that some Muslims may themselves be responsible for the absence of their co-religionists in the Army.

During his tenure in IOJK light infantry, he says, he found.. Image
9/
..it difficult to recruit Muslims who would rather fight for "Allah and not for the country".

There is a continuous questioning of Indian Muslim loyalty to India by organizations such as RSS, BJP, Shiv Sena, VHP, and Bajrang Dal. ImageImageImageImage

Indian Muslims are accused of cheering Pakistani athletes, celebrating their victories in sports, and mourning their defeats.
An opinion poll conducted by MARG, India's top market research and polling company..
11/
..revealed that a majority of Hindus believed that
"Muslims should not be allowed in the Armed forces."

This echoes what George Fernandes said in 1985:
"The Muslim is not wanted in the Armed Forces because is always suspect -- whether we want to admit it or not, most.. Image
12/
..Indians consider Muslims a fifth column for Pakistan."

In 1999, a former Defense minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, estimated Muslims to be just 1% out of a total of 1.1 million Indian Army.

Muslims' representation in the Indian Airforce and Navy remain meager.
13/
As a former Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat, noted:
"There are hardly any Muslim officers in the Navy and none of them hold posts of any consequence." Image
14/
Since the 1990s there is an issue of emerging communal outlook in Indian armed forces.

First, the refusal of the Army authorities to permit Friday prayers has given rise to complaints similar to the refusal to allow Muslim soldiers.
15/
Second the tendency of some top military officers to draw the values to be inculcated from only one religious tradition, in this case from Hinduism, can cause resentment.

For instance Gen B.C. Joshi, the COAS exhorted his troops to "follow the path of Dharma" and the moral.. Image
16/
..obligations "enshrined in the two Vedas - Rigveda and Atharva-veda".

Rear Admiral Vijay Shankar announced that henceforth new naval cadets would be supplied copies of Ramayana for classroom exercises.

Third, invitations to politicians like Bal Thackeray and.. Image
17/
..Tarun Vijay (of the Shiv Sena and the RSS) for military events have caused dismay among Indians committed to inter-group harmony.

This is despite the fact of proven Indian Muslim loyalty during the four wars with Pakistan, as well as the fact that.. ImageImage
18/
..India's "missile man" A.P.J Abdul Kalam, a Muslim took a leading part in the nuclear explosion of May 1998.
To date, there are just three known cases of Muslims in the army charged with espionage for Pakistan, while there have been many more Hindus charged for the same. Image

The scourge of sectarianism increased in the 80s but systematic killings of the Hazara community increased manifold during 2003-2013 (also coincided with WoT).

I'll list down major terrorist incidents targetting the Hazara community since 2003.
2/
On 8 June 2003, two LeJ gunmen on a motorcycle martyred 13 Shia Hazara police cadets & injured nine in Quetta after intercepting their van at a traffic circle.
A few weeks later, on 4 July, three LeJ terrorists stormed the Imambargah-i-Kalan in Quetta during Friday prayers..
3/
..and opened fire for ten minutes on the more than 500 worshippers gathered with AK-47s and hand grenades. When assaulted by some worshippers, one of them exploded a suicide belt. Fifty-three Hazara Shias died and over sixty were injured.

It reflects poorly on progressives when they dismiss leaders like Taji Kokhar as representatives of "Qabza Mafia" or "extortionist."
He suffered the loss of his family, faced incarceration and threats, received threats from opponents, and eventually died due to state atrocities.
Taji Kokhar faced all these hardships not because he was merely a landgrabber (how many landgrabbers suffer that fate?) but because he chose to take a stand against military dictators, against religious extremists, and against patriarchal prejudice. His ability to endure the pain
and suffering meted out to him reflected the tragic fate of our entire people who are forced to confront the tyranny of a brutal state apparatus.
Taji Kokhar made mistakes, compromises, and had limitations. But those limitations were a result of a long and ardent fight against..

Today is Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto's 92nd birthday anniversary. Bhutto was a mercurial, mysterious man, a spellbinding orator, an astute & ruthless political intrigant.

He was a socialist-minded politician, a reckless adventurer, a man who founded a new strategic foreign policy..
2/
..set up the nuclear program "We will eat grass but we will build a bomb" and who, being an admirer of Napoleon that he was, became more and more autocratic after becoming PM of Pak.

Today, despite his flaws and mistakes, Bhutto is widely projected by his party & supporters..
3/
..as the most effective leader independent Pakistan ever produced, whose legacy lives on in the current 1973 constitution, nuclear capability, foreign policy pivot, relative independence of the provinces vis-a-vis the center in Islamabad.

In a BBC program, Indian author Arundhati Roy commented that "..the Muslim community in India has been ghettoized..."

Let's take a look at her claim if it's true or not.

All across Gujarat, in all major cities and in several towns, Muslims are deliberately forced into ghettos through a law called the Gujarat Disturbed Areas Act.

The law requires citizens in particular parts of cities to seek permission from the government before..
3/
..selling their property or changing their tenant and filters them by religion.
Gujarat's state govt extended the law across the state, to keep Muslims out of other neighborhoods than those traditionally Muslim. It criminalizes attempts to integrate, permanently..

On Mar-20, a 35-min call between Trump & Taliban deputy leader Mullah Baradar took place, Trump said:
"I know u (Taliban) are fighting for ur land".

Mike Pompeo had multiple calls with Baradar. This is not it, Afghan Taliban are hosted by Russia, China, Iran & Gulf countries.
2/
Interestingly, Mullah Baradar's visit was in close liaison with the Afghan Govt yet he has been trying to sabotage the Afghan peace process.

Coincidentally Mohsin Dawar in a speech in Khyber also spoke Amrullah Saleh's words.
3/
Pak has not only hosted the Taliban for an Afghan peace process but Abdullah Abdullah was also hosted, PM IK also visited Kabul & Zalmay also visits Pak at every available opportunity because Pak knows that peace of Afghan is imp for peace in Pakistan. Image
