After my vote today, I will go home and explain to my two boys why it was important to impeach the president. It’s a conversation that parents across the country are having right now with their kids. I wanted to share my thoughts as you're having that conversation (thread).
This is a conversation that explains that when someone does something wrong, there are consequences; that reminds them that nobody is above the law; and it’s a conversation that reminds them that our country is something worth protecting.
The events of last week will define this era and sets a course on the future of this country. We can choose to act and make it clear for future generations that the actions of the President and his supporters will not be tolerated, or we can allow inaction to speak volumes.
I have to look my kids in the eye, and my constituents in the eye, and explain that choice. For that, I will always choose standing up for the integrity of the Republic we serve and the protection of the country we call home.

Tonight, we passed the #NDAA which delivers for our service members and strengthens our national defense. As we look to the future, I believe that @JoeBiden's pick of Gen. Austin for SecDef is the right one for America's security (thread)
This is a decision I've thought very carefully about, and is informed by watching Gen. Austin up close when he served as CENTCOM commander and I served at the White House.
He was always extraordinarily thoughtful and unbelievably prepared whenever he spoke in the Situation Room and showed a level of professionalism and respect to our troops at every rank that I always admired in a leader.
Today marks the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War, an event that fundamentally shaped the trajectory of my family and millions of others. I wanted to share a few thoughts on where we go from here (thread)
This anniversary comes at a critical time. We’ve seen North Korea openly working to increase tensions. The Trump Administration’s actions on burden sharing with South Korea distract us from that threat.
Our goal in the next year should be peace for the next 70 years, and beyond. We can only do that by strengthening our strategic alliance with South Korea and an actual strategy in dealing with North Korea.
