The assertion that America is somehow better than everywhere else, that it’s God’s chosen country, that Americans are special... it’s so dangerous.
It creates a sense of expectation and entitlement for so many that just can’t be lived up to.
@ManMadeMoon And then you get to the really insidious part of “Make America Great Again.”
Which asserts that all this is true. This is how it’s supposed to be. And it’s not your fault that your life isn’t meeting your expectations, it’s Democrats/socialism/foreign powers/insert bad guy here.
@ManMadeMoon And DJT was going to fix all that for them. Except of course he never could because none of it’s really true. This is the real ‘Big Lie’, and the one that so many people believe because it is easy to believe, because it matches what they’ve been told their whole lives.
@ManMadeMoon The whole rhetoric around America, from both sides of the political divide, needs to change.
It’s a great country, and for each person their is opportunity. But you’re not entitled to it. And not everyone is going to find theirs. Life can be hard. And it requires hard work too.
@ManMadeMoon Somehow, the base sense of entitlement that comes with simply being American needs to be challenged, and reset. The American Dream was never about “because you’re born here, you get.” But a swathe of people are convinced it’s exactly that.
This is how you get people like
@ManMadeMoon @ dotjenna flying to the Capitol on January 6th ON A PRIVATE JET videoing herself complaining “They’re taking everything from us.”
It’s madness.
Anyway, from one brain fart to another, that’s where it should start, were the political parties brave enough to do so.
