This is a good, depressing piece. I wanted to point out a couple of things that struck me as I was reading it
1.) Permission, not persuasion.
2.) Compare the strategies. The difference in the coverage is that the story about Myanmar shows cause (posts from the military inciting violence) and the story about the USA shows effect (the perspective of the incited.) They're the same.

3.) That's what I meant here theguardian.com/technology/201…

This has been all over PUA/WS forums for years. I don't even know if some of them realize it's phrenology. They're all like, "I (m/22/white) have a low-T jawline but my head and mouth have strong bow curves indicating strong Western European heritage so why don't girls like me?"
PUA=pick-up artist, WS=white supremacist, I ran out of room
oh yeah and "low-T" means "low testosterone" in this particular imitation

Two of Amanda Chase's former bodyguards were at the Capitol riots, and before that they were perhaps best known as the weird Q people who tried to wreak havoc on the vote counting process in Pennsylvania a couple months/a billion years ago

Remember how I talked about how I bought zip ties to learn how to get out of zip ties? Here's one of the reasons. Recall that I was a border reporter and often went toe to toe with white supremacists around those issues
Border related issues, that is. I took issue with the propaganda they spewed that filled the information vacuum around the border grey zones (the "liminal zone," I've always called it in my head) and the fact that they like to go out to the desert and slash water bottles that
volunteers leave for asylum seekers fleeing across the desert. And of course there's that whole thing about how they want me dead, at least going by what they tell me. And that's just on the USA side of the border. I've made plenty of folks mad on the Mexico side too.

Consider this in light of the claims from organizers and promoters (like Ali Alexander) that they were working with elected officials

This is just straight up gaslighting, there were "Stop the Steal" (for just one example) groups with membership in the thousands to millions that a bunch of people were working their asses off trying to get taken down for inciting ultraviolence

Like people would report them again and again and again and they would stay up -- until they started pressuring Facebook publicly
