I didn't realize Spotify themselves was fully complicit though...

Here's an artist that has 132M streams on their most popular song.

Google her and enjoy reading a completely fake backstory with a stock photo decoy.

I did some research on this and Turns out these fake artists on Spotify are mostly created by one company also located in Stockholm (also where Spotify is)

The company responsible is epidemic sound.

Here's where it gets pretty shady,

Spotify claims that they don't make fake artists but epidemic and Spotify are owned by a common investor a VC firm by the name of Creandum.

Not to mention epidemic sound was called out for doing commissioned flat buyouts on songs to skirt paying royalties to real artists...

Keep in mind that the reason Spotify does this is to dilute the amount of streams on the platform to pay other artists less.

Oh I forgot to mention that these fake artists always appear on official playlists from Spotify, just thought I should clear where they are getting promotion from.

Spotify also stated that it was planning a new algorithm update that would give artists who accepted a lower streaming rate more money.

But if epidemic has been doing this the whole time you already have been accepting a lower streaming rate for no promotion 🤔
