This morning I was at court when stopped in an enclosed area by a journalist not social distancing. To be honest I felt uncomfortable at his approach and manner. He asked for my first name (he already had my last name and could get further details from court clerks.) 1/4
My client and probation who were already waiting, so I chose to prioritise them and declined to engage further, believing he already had sufficient information to identify me. I am genuinely sorry if there was anything wrong in this or any miscommunication. 2/4
As a result of this man's subsequent tweeting I have received a torrent of horrid abuse which has been really distressing. I am really grateful to colleagues and journalists, some whom know me and many who do not, who have offered their support. 3/4
Those who know me know I believe open justice is vitally important & have never sought to undermine it in any way. I hope that perhaps we can perhaps be a little kinder to each other as we all continue to do our best in exceptionally difficult circumstances. (End of thread)
