Trump Forest Service today issued its final Environmental Impact Statement for massive planned Arizona copper mine that will destroy a sacred Native America site on the National Register of Historic places. Clears way for land sale of federal land to mining company Rio Tinto.
I wrote about this project last month, one of several major mining and energy projects on federal lands that Trump team was rushing to get done before he left office. nytimes.com/2020/12/19/us/…
Lawsuits already pending to try to stop this land transfer. But it is unclear if it can be stopped by Biden. Once this Environmental Impact statement is released, land transfer is to Rio Tinto is suppose to happen automatically under law in 60 days.
Trump Interior just a month ago also gave final approval to what a Canadian mining company hopes will soon be the one of the largest lithium mines in the United States in Nevada--ALSO on federal land.

NEWS: N.Y.C. Will End Trump Contracts Over Capitol Riot. The contracts are for two ice-skating rinks at Central Park, the Central Park Carousel and the Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point, a city-owned golf course in the Bronx. @emmagfnyti.ms/3sh2fBz
This is a reckoning unlike anything Trump has ever seen. Includes famed Wollman rink, that Trump famously offered mayor Ed Koch to rebuild in 1980s at Trump expense within six months, in return for the leases to operate the rink. Trump has run it ever since.

In case you missed it, the sentencing memo from DOJ prosecutors who along with the FBI spent years of their lives bringing a case against a guy convicted of one of the largest Medicare fraud cases in US history. A year later, Trump commuted what is left of his 20 yr jail term.
If you want to read the entire memo, here it is int.nyt.com/data/documentt…. And here is a second related memo.

FYI, was fascinating to read as he all but begged a federal judge last year to not give him a long prison sentence. Judge still sentenced him to 20 years. So Philip Esformes found another route: a religious group his dad donated money to push Trump to get him out of jail
And here is what he said just before he was sentenced....
UPDATE: A federal court judge in DC on today (Tuesday Dec. 22) imposed a temporary restraining order on helium drilling project on pristine federal lands in Utah that I wrote about in SUNDAY NYT. int.nyt.com/data/documentt…
Here is the story. This was one of four projects that I focused on in this story. It is a temporary restraining order, which is very unusual, as Interior has not even issued the drilling permit yet. But judge agreed that his action would be moot if he waited.
Here is the story from Sunday's paper. Final approval of this Utah project had been expected as soon as Dec. 23, with construction slated to begin immediately . nytimes.com/2020/12/19/us/…
