One thing I am thinking about tonight as we see this insurrectionist violence- stoked and coordinated and amplified on social media- is the absurd, fawning coverage of Mark Zuckerberg $400 million gift for election security before the election. npr.org/2020/12/08/943… Image
I've already shared my thoughts on this. Nothing these two could do will ever make up for the damage Facebook has done to our democracy- allowing conspiracists and hate groups to fester and grow for years.
This massive gift was not primarily to fund a solution- it was to seek absolution. We must deny him that. protegopress.com/the-week-mark-…

History books just changed overnight, I think. The texture and strength of Biden’s victory and the emergence of a new Democratic majority in the Senate, alongside a Democratic House, mark the total political defeat of Donald Trump. MAGA is dead, even if the base doesn't know it.
Certainly right. The ingredients that made up MAGA are still there- but this particular Trumpian recipe is kaput. Eric Trump crowing about how "MAGA is going nowhere" on Fox last night further convinces me- the opposite is true!
My optimistic view in the dawn is we are making progress, and we have just defeated one of the most brutal white supremacist backlashes yet. If the GOP fractures and Dems govern well it offers a window to heal. If it doubles down we have dark clouds ahead. But this is progress!
