So it's Sunday January 17, the day that, according to reports, armed marches are planned on all 50 state capitols and DC. What are we seeing?
So far: very little. The overwhelming consensus in pro-Trump spaces is that the supposed marches today are FBI/CIA/Antifa false flag events or honeypots designed to draw them out.
Before the Jan 6 rally, MAGA spaces online were full of people saying they were going, planning their routes, making banners, wishing they could join. For today, it's the opposite. The message in Trumpworld is "stay home".
QAnon spaces are pushing the same messages. They interpreted Trump's last video as a message to stay away because they think the military will be carrying out its coup and they'd only get in the way
In fact, I don't think I've seen even one person who says they're going to a capitol protest today. And looking at some of the other extremism experts here, we're all seeing the same pattern.
That doesn't mean nobody will come to the capitols. Some Trump supporters will have seen media reports of preparation for a protest and might go to their statehouse expecting to join it.
On the other extreme, there are militia groups that might seek to take advantage of the heightened tensions. I'm thinking specifically of Boogaloo types whose primary aim is triggering a civil war.
I understand the caution the FBI and the states are showing, especially after the Capitol riot. edition.cnn.com/2021/01/11/pol…
I had concerns too, when these protests were first planned a week ago. And the potential for an individual or small group to cause chaos with bombs or guns remains, unfortunately.
So let's keep alert. But increasingly, I think the genuinely dangerous period is likely to come after Biden's inauguration, when the hardest-core Trumpers and QAnons, who still insist today that Trump will be sworn in, will be smacked in the face by reality.

@_MAArgentino The Sovereign Citizens are a really weird movement that exist, in their own flavours, around the world.
@_MAArgentino Basically, Sovereign Citizens believe that the modern Government is a corporation and laws are only binding because people opt into them.
More new info on vaccines and transmission Research by Maccabi, an Israeli HMO, showed a 60% drop in detected Sars-CoV-2 in PCR tests among people vaccinated with the first Pfizer/BioNTech dose after 13 days.
Unlike the Clalit study, this one isn't restricted to the 60+ age group and looks at 430k vaccinated people according to the Channel 12 news report.
This would suggest that the Pfizer vaccine, even at first dose, cuts transmission by AT LEAST 60%. Clalit's data suggested AT LEAST 33% infectivity cut for the over-60s.
There won't be a rerun of Jan 6. The riot at the Capitol was unique in many ways: Trump called for it; it was the last chance to "overturn" the election; it was huge in scale.
The coming Trumpist events on Jan 17 and Jan 20 will probably be much smaller in scale, especially in DC. The MAGA crew can't buy another flight and take more days off work so soon after Jan 6.
Some of the Trumpist forums are actively suspicious of these events, claiming they're FBI or Antifa traps. A lot of people at TDW felt that the *design* of this flyer was too lefty to be real!
So who's running America now? Who's making decisions? If an Iranian-backed militia shelled a US base in Iraq, who would decide on the scale of the response?
They can't just keep Trump locked in a cupboard for two weeks and hope nobody needs to make any decisions. Better to invoke the 25th Amendment for real
I get it. Nobody wants the hassle. Between Pence, SecDef and the White House staff, they can maybe keep things ticking over. It's easier this way.
So, I think we'll see Trump announce a 2024 run in the next couple of days, to keep himself relevant and in the news. But...
There's a lot of anger in the MAGA base against Trump himself. They believed him when he said the election was stolen. They believed he'd overturn the result.
The core MAGA crowd were excited to see what Trump had planned to stay in office and make "liberals' heads explode". They trusted the plan.
