Remember: the Big Lie started as one of the GOP’s Regular Lies (“voter fraud”)

It got Big as news outlets let Republicans spread it for years

You must assume the Big Liars will lie about all Regular Lies. To stop those lies from becoming Big, you must ban the Big Liars. Now.
Republicans push countless Regular Lies — climate change is a hoax, Biden is corrupt in Ukraine, guns don’t kill people, tax cuts for the rich help everyone, etc.

The news media has a misplaced sense of tolerance for these lies only because they’re not Big... yet
In an ideal world journalists would own up to their role in allowing the Big Liars to use their platforms. They won’t do that

In a more practical world maybe journalists can be convinced not to air or print the words of Liars knowing it can lead to such ultimate carnage
Those of you creaming your Nats jorts over Ben Sasse’s essay, ask yourself which Lies you’re comfortable with Sasse spreading. Fast forward a few years when climate change is destroying coastal cities for real; are you thinking “if only I could go back in time and stop that Lie?”

You can incite a racist insurrection, knowingly lying about repeatedly proven lies after supporting a white supremacist agenda for four years, and still be welcomed back to the mainstream media as long as you say "my bad"
Lankford will be on a Sunday show and will probably get zero questions about why he lied about voter fraud, how long he knew it was a lie, specifically what he knew was the truth when he lied, why he thinks people should believe him on any other issue when he knowingly lied...

I got my start in news at @politico. I would quit on the spot today. Handing their newsletter to a proudly bad-faith Republican to spread this pure shit is the grossest thing I’ve seen happen there

This isn’t even part of the “is this journalism” debate. This is just sickening
Don’t worry it’s not just inventing a lie that Bernie Sanders told his supporters to shoot people (???) and claiming Trump’s voter fraud lie is the same as Stacey Abrams’ loss (????) it’s also grotesque apologia for Republicans who are — get this — patriotic victims. Hooooly fuck
When we say the news industry is broken beyond repair we mean that decisions like this are made by people once thought of as titanic geniuses but have somehow been poisoned by a desire to so blindly trust a party of strategic liars that they give them full editorial control

Roy Blunt LIED about the election and helped Trump incite a terrorist attack

And today @FaceTheNation let him lie about it again. @margbrennan did not ask him ONCE about how he refused to acknowledge Biden as pres-elect

For WEEKS after the election, Blunt refused to say Biden won. He spread the conspiracy theory that election was stolen. This lie led directly to Wednesday's attack

This was not even MENTIONED by @margbrennan. Instead Blunt was allowed to lie and say he had nothing to do with it Image
Worth noting that on Wednesday @CBSNews prohibited its journalists from calling the terrorist attack a terrorist attack or even an insurrection. They protected the pro-Trump mob and censored their journalists from telling the truth. A clear pattern of helping to rehab Republicans
