I started this in late 2015 with then-intern @jasmineclee and @jeremybmerrill. Back then, it was still simply shocking to see some of these insults on the internet, and to know that it was actually Trump himself who was sending them.
I had just read a @MarkLeibovich piece in NYT Mag (Nov. 2015) and passage was still with me months later:

And with that, we started tagging. Five years later, thanks especially to the patience and diligence of @flynnkaNYT and @MonkovicNYT, this project is complete. (In the last few days I was also saved by @jshkatz and @iamrumz, but that's nothing new.) nytimes.com/interactive/20…
Yes, in many ways this project is dumb and exhausting — there is already mail in my inbox — but I also think it's the only thing I've ever published that might be read by historians in 100 years. There's nothing like it!
