[THREAD] My dad, the late Bernard Deutch, served our country in battle, earning a Purple Heart fighting the Nazis at the Battle of the Bulge. He believed in America because of the opportunities it offered his immigrant father and the hope it offered the little guy to succeed. 1/8
My mom, the late Jean Deutch, never got to go to college but made sure her 5 kids had that opportunity. She sat in the House gallery when her youngest son was sworn into Congress.

I’ll be thinking about them & everyone just like them at President Joe Biden's inauguration. 2/8
I’ll be thinking of my wife, our kids, my siblings, everyone we know & the millions we've admired from afar who went to the Women’s March because women’s rights are human rights, who fought the Muslim Ban...
3/8
I'll be thinking of those who saw no very fine people marching with the racists and antisemites in Charlottesville, who believed in science and fighting climate change when those in power rewarded polluters, who decried the separation of families and putting kids in cages...
4/8
I'll be thinking of those who responded to attacks on equality by demanding that the civil rights of LGBTQ people in our society must be enshrined in law, who followed the leadership of our young people who marched for their lives to end gun violence...
5/8
I'll be thinking of those who honored our healthcare heroes & frontline workers while mourning those lost & the leadership failure that made it worse, who declared that George Floyd’s brutal death must finally lead to meaningful change & racial justice bc Black lives matter...6/8
I'll be thinking of those who know that Joe Biden won the election by 7 million votes and that anyone in the White House or Congress who tried to overturn the election based on lies and conspiracy theories must be held accountable.
7/8
I’ll be thinking of all of them. And RBG. And my friend John Lewis. And the America we love under leadership working to bring us together rather than trying to tear us apart.

Here’s to Joe and Kamala, our next President and Vice President of the United States.

God bless America

Despite diplomatic efforts & a ceasefire, violence still plagues Yemen.

Along w/ reduced international aid, this could exacerbate the spread of COVID19.

@RepJoeWilson & I hosted a @HouseForeign MENAIT Subcommittee virtual event to examine humanitarian crisis. (1/4)
Our members are focused on COVID19's impact on our communities & constituents. This pandemic demonstrates that developments abroad can jeopardize national security at home.

The US must continue to help end the war, reduce humanitarian suffering & contain COVID-19 in Yemen.(2/4)
Thank you @RAlmutawakel, @AbdulGhani1959, who joined from Yemen, & @SchneidermanDM & @ElanaGulf for sharing your insight, which affirms that Congress has a responsibility to continue our work, including tracking global events & bringing attention to humanitarian crises. (3/4)

.@Jim_Jordan claims @HouseJudiciary is changing the rules midway on impeachment.

Wrong.

It was his own party that changed the rules in 2015.

politico.com/story/2018/10/…
As I wrote last month, “In the past, a resolution directing @HouseJudiciary to consider impeachment was needed to grant the committee additional subpoena authority & financial resources. That was the official start of an impeachment inquiry.

sun-sentinel.com/opinion/editor…
But times have changed. In 2015, GOP leaders gave committee chairs broad subpoena powers—powers that @RepJerryNadler, retains today.

No additional step is required. No magic words need to be uttered on the House floor. No vote to authorize an impeachment inquiry is necessary.”

I really don't understand how the principal of Spanish River Community High School in Boca Raton, Palm Beach County, Florida, could question the historical fact that is Hitler's slaughter of six million Jews. (THREAD)
My children attended Spanish River, and they participated in Holocaust education programs with some of the many Holocaust survivors who live in our community. Palm Beach County, Broward County, and the entire State of Florida teach the Holocaust as historical fact, a fact that...
is immensely personal for so many residents of South Florida.

As a member of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council and a founder of the Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Anti-Semitism, I am immensely troubled that 2/3 of young Americans could not identify Auschwitz and over...

I don’t want to keep talking about how there are at least 10 instances of obstruction of justice in the Mueller Report. I want everyone in America to understand what they are.

Looking forward to tomorrow’s @HouseJudiciary hearing.

Teachers have made it clear they don't want guns in their classrooms. Yet Kansas lawmakers are considering a proposal that would all but force them to carry weapons by placing the liability for school shootings on the school itself. (1/5)
Also, a little FYI to @NRA and the Kansas legislature, guns in schools are already putting kids in danger. (2/5)

Guns in schools are not safe. (3/5)
