Laputa sounds just like the description of the island or abode of the Phoenix.
What is also interesting, is in the original text of The Phoenix, it describes the fountain in the center of the island that waters the lands once every month, 12 times a year.
Very similar to how Laputa has a cave in the center where all the rainwaters are gathered.
