SC Senate Medical Affairs Committee meeting now to discuss the bill to ban all abortions in the state after ~6 weeks of pregnancy.
The bill, S.1, is moving rapidly through the legislative process after advancing out of subcommittee last week: postandcourier.com/politics/anti-…
.@senatortomdavis (R-Beaufort) introduces amendment to provide exception to abortion ban in cases of rape/incest (currently only exception is if life of pregnant woman is in danger).
Sen. Tom Corbin (R-Greenville) asks what would prevent a woman from lying to get an abortion.
State Sen. Richard Cash (R-Anderson), says punishment for rape should fall upon the rapist, not the "innocent human life" of the fetus.
"This is not in any way to minimize the violence, the trauma, the very difficult situation that the woman has been put in by the rapist."
Amendment to add exceptions for rape/incest to abortion ban bill fails 4-7.
All 6 Democrats on the committee abstained. #scpol
Committee votes 7-4 to adopt amendment to abortion ban bill to cover pregnancy costs if woman does not have health insurance.
Dems sit out the vote again, seemingly intent on not touching a bill they know they are going to ultimately oppose. #scpol
Committee amends that cost coverage amendment by voice vote to limit it to U.S. citizens, though the amendment's sponsor (Corbin) suggests it will be further changed on the SC Senate floor.

Here’s a photo of Bowers’ office. You may recognize the name of the other attorney who used to work in the same building with him before taking on a different job. #scpol
Bowers finally just emerged from his office in running clothes after I staked it out for about an hour.
I asked if he’ll be representing Trump in the impeachment trial.

THREAD: Today, S.C. utility regulators cut power rates 17 months after a massive nuclear project was nixed. It's way less than many hoped, but still billions of dollars in future savings for the public.
It may not have happened without the work of unrelenting local reporters.
2) Those reporters are too humble to take credit for what they did, so I'll give it to them in the form of a few highlights.
3) Within weeks of the project getting cancelled, @Andy_Ed_Brown had uncovered early signs of "incompetence at every level" that had gone unheeded as SCE&G continued to collect ratepayer money for their "sexy" failing project: postandcourier.com/business/early…
