I only had about 5 weeks between being booked on #TheChase and taping so it was a crash course in trying to get any edge I could. I watched every ep of S1 & S2 of the GSN version on Netflix at least 3x. (Later seasons not available to stream there... or anywhere else...I tried).
I also watched as many eps of the British version of #TheChase on ITV as I could (most are available). I had to adjust my self evaluation to account for all of the hyper British stuff (I've forgotten more about cricket than I ever thought possible).
As with my prep for @jeopardy I developed my own rudimentary scoring table to get a sense of my metrics (when it comes to games with a wagering/ risk-level-selection angle you really need to know where you stand vs the avg. player. #TheChase
Sample breakdown of a random British game (excuse the chicken scratch). Making note of player totals in cash builders, ow each q went in #thechase, and things to look up.
Based on my metrics (from the prior versions of the show) my goal was 8 qs right in the cash builder with a minimum of 6. So when they told us backstage that each q was worth 25K I was thinking of condos on Zillo.
THEN we saw how hard the Qs were. Sarah did great but we were all bushwacked by the difficulty, deer in the headlights. I knew immediately 8 was FANTASY.
Fun fact, this was actually not the first time I met Sara. On top of a story coach I'm also a comic & actor and one of my fav gigs ever was dropping in on Strahan & Sara to do this hidden camera prank back in 2019. @thechaseABC #TheChase
How did I miss Mickey???? I saw this movie 9 billion times as a kid
My mom told me that morning "Boy you better not gamble with that money!"
Being me, I dug for every angle on how to get an edge and googled "The Chase statistical analysis". Basically if you think you're in the 60th percentile of player and the chaser is at 90, you should go for the middle money unless it's at least double mindyourdecisions.com/blog/2016/01/1…
I think I'm about 80, but I think every chaser is closr to 100 soooo.... stick to the middle.
James just dropped 10-1 odds against me. He's good at setting odds. Let's see what happens. Only thing going through my head in the moment was "I believe I can win." Got to. Sports, comedy, trivia, it doesn't matter: if you think you're toast before you compete you will be toast.
OK so i got 3 in a minute. Now I have 2 mins. By simple extrapolation I'm on track for 6 right (very small sample size). Not nearly enough to win. Let's see if I can beat that!
12! I was twice as good as I was in the first round (averaged out). Will it be enough??? Also I just want to confirm: I know what’s up with the month of May (was kicking myself there).
Great game! Had so much fun but in the end the team and I couldn't close it out. Oh well, it was still a blast. And I'm proud of "cuttlefish" (thanks Netflix & Wikipedia). wesrecs.info/post/watching-…
