Church of Our Lady of Miracles in Mapusa, North Goa

Built in 1594 over a Hindu temple destr0yed by the Portuguese and clergy.

(Brief Thread)
The church was originally dedicated to St Jerome. In 1961 at the time of Goa's independence it sustained damages due to unrest. It was rebuilt dedicated to Nossa Senhora (lady of miracles "virgin Mary") (1)
The idea planted by missionaries post independence was that Mirabai, the sister of a local Hindu goddess Lairai Devi has taken the form of "Lady of miracles" (virgin Mary) for devotees in the above mentioned church. (2)
FYI Mirabai's temple was razed by the Portuguese around the same time when this church was built. (3)
Hindus of the region bought this story with great zeal and happiness! (4)
Now hindus and xtians together worship in the church and this setup is one of the glowing examples of communal harmony in secular India. Jai Ho! 🤦 (5)
Pun intended.

The BATTLE OF PAVAN KHIND (13 July 1660)

300 MARATHAS against 10000+ ADIL SHAHI TROOPS

A Sparta style last man stand at a mountain pass which ensured Shivaji Maharaj's safety.

Valour, loyalty and sacrifice!
Baji Prabhu Deshpande was one of the most able lieutenants of Shivaji. He sacrificed his life defending Shivaji in a heroic last stand known as the "Battle of Pavan Khind" in which his force was hugely outnumbered.(1)
In this battle he became a martyr, but managed to halt the enemy forces for several hours, which secured Shivaji’s safety and victory on another front. Without this heroic last stand Shivaji’s glorious career may have been cut short.(2)

According to shiv puraan, Brahma and Vishnu had an argument regarding who was the most powerful amongst the Trimurti. The argument went on until they asked Shiva to intervene.(1)

(Thread)

HEMRAJ VIKRAMADITYA "HEMU" who almost drove the M0ghuls back to Afghanistan in the 2nd battle of Panipat. History is written by the victors. Unfortunately he lost and his name finds a one line mention in mainstream history books.
